My last 3 feeds were on one side. First for 3 minutes, second for 8 minutes and the 3rd for 18 minutes and he's been peacefully sleeping for over 2 hours!

Hoping this is a turning point. It been one thing after another here.

He's 5 weeks old at 332am tonight

Ddc.

Poop sounds normal. Actually so does gas. The system is simply too immature to be very efficient.

First a foremost/ some babies scream nonstop. Hello to my third son :/

Second- you should start a complete elimination diet to see if there are any allergens causing this. Watch out for hidden proteins. Takes about 3 full weeks to be completely allergen free (mom) so don't give up too early.

Another question!!!

When i finally switch to the other, more full breast, will he revert a little with tummy issues and more poop, then back off with subsequent feedings on that side?

Bc thats what happened early this am when i switched at 1130 last night, this morning at 630 he started hurting and pooping a bunch

Yes, there will be more foremilk in that breast. My IBCLC actually discourages block feeding for that reason.

Re: not sure what to do.

I am in my phone, lying in bed and nursing Ezra so I can't get to resources well, but that hind milk/foremilk thing has lately come under fire about how accurate it is. The goal of block feeding is to get to a point where he won't get fussy with too much milk because it helps the body regulate. So in the short term he may get fussy when the block on some side is over.

Think of hind milk and foremilk going out like a straw. You get both. Foremilk inside the straw, then hind outside the straw. But you get both, at every feed. The ratio just changes. Does that make sense..?
