It's pretty normal to feel like its hard. Heck, I'm an experienced runner and my runs are hard, as i condition myself all over again. Are you doing yoga or anything on off days to loosen your muscles? Also, consider foam rolling. It's the new craze and works well. But outside of that, time will take away the aches

Week 3, Day 1.... and I didn't DIE!! :-)

I wasn't sure how I would do today. I unwisely decided I would start alternating days with JM Ripped in 30 and started that yesterday.

I did it with DH last summer, so I figured "what the hay" and I would start with week 2. lol It's like childbirth - I forgot how much I hate/love her and I was soooo feeling it this morning. lol

NotLad - should I alternate, or is it better to do my run and then JM right after while I'm warmed up. then take a rest day???

Re: Couch to 5K anyone?

I would alternate days. I didn't start doing bricks (back to back workouts) until i started training for Olympic-distance triathlons.

And one rest day a week is a good idea.

It's aggressive, but doable.

So I did nothing yesterday. But at least I had a good excuse! lol

The dental assistant "forgot" I was allergic to latex and used a rubber dam in my mouth, so I spent the afternoon at the emergency room, and the evening sleeping off the eleventy billion antihistamines in my system.

I will be doing week 3 day 2 when I get home from work tonight.

Re: Couch to 5K anyone?

I don't know if they have a lot of them in your area but look for charity runs that benefit a cause that means something to you. I am lucky I am stationed in a tourist trap so there are multiple races every weekend and I have the luxury of picking ones that mean the most. If it is a question of motivation, try googling your cause (children's hospitals, wounded warriors, cancer support) and keep yourself going. Plus a lot of times the people the race will benefit come out to thank the runners...a high five at the end of your race from a special olympian or a kid too sick to run themselves will remind you you are doing a great thing!

And as long as you have good shoes and train safe (up your banana intake for sore muscles, give yourself stretching and rub down time, rest days, and lots of water) you will see your run times improve. Hope you are able to find a partner! Run buddies keep you going. I have to wait until I have this baby then I will be tying my old running shoes back on!

I've been running since I was 13 ( a long time ago) but was out of practice from having my 4th baby in 6 years in October. I ran my first 5k as an adult today and am worn out! I followed the couch to 5k and it never really got 'easy' for me. I like the program but I would like to do one that is a bit more endurance building. Good luck on your workout!

Yikes. Are you okay? I hope the dentist is covering your ER bill.

I'm in Canada - there's no cost for the ER. I guess when she opened my file on the computer, no allergy warning showed up at first. After she went to put in a note that I don't freeze well (after needle number 5) it popped up and she saw it. The dam was only on for a minute because I wasn't frozen yet. It was an honest mistake and she was a hygenist I've not had there before. They felt really bad, but it could have been much worse.

Okay- home now. Off DS and onto the treadmill! :-)
