I've only ever used flats but I love them. We pad fold now and it's pretty much the best thing that's ever happened to my diapering life.

Re: Prefolds vs. Flats

Oh my goodness....flats all the way! They are so easy, easy, easy! And believe it or not, I actually find the folding soothing and relaxing.

ETA: and this is coming from someone who used only prefolds and fitteds for the first several years of cloth diapering. Really, when it comes down to it, I don't think anything can beat flats and a good cover for simple, easy, quick, and cheap.

Prefolds. They have been my staple since I started cd'ing.

Re: Prefolds vs. Flats

I prefer prefolds because I get tired of folding flats but don't like the clutter of the multiple sizes of prefolds.

Prefolds. I get bored and tired of folding flats. I think prefolds are more absorbent. And I like the feel of them over the Birdseye of flats.

Flats!

Prefold folds always appear bulky & too wide between the crotch.

This exactly. I have never been able to find the PF love. They are awesomely soft, but SO THICK. I will never be able to understand how people do PF's under regular clothes. Unless you child is tiny and has no rear end? Or the pants are a massive size. Or you do wool I suppose I feel like I do a pretty awesome and tight flat kite fold with a Snappi too, so it's not like I don't know how to put a PF on. I've watched videos and tried a million times. I feel like alot of thin material is easier to work with than not alot of bulky material.

Flats! They are more versatile, last through more sizes, and wash & dry so quickly. Plus, the cotton ones are cheap!

I agree. I have always been able to get a better fit with a flat than a PF. Also I like how you can prefold a flat and then it will hold its shape, especially if you pack them tightly in a basket of some sort. I have always have trouble when folding down a prefold and having it stay while I put the baby on.

But I do love my prefolds. I seem to go on kicks. Right now Im on a flat kick but before that I was on a nothing but prefold kick. I think I keep coming back to flats because they are so trim and customizable but keep drifting to prefolds because they require NO FOLDING and they are so soft and fluffy. So I have equal amounts of both and yes it drives me crazy. I want to destash to one or the other but I just can't.
