Meals for camping - foil packs?
Anyone have any suggestions for some yummy foil packed food for camping? DH has an annual canoe trip that he goes on each year (Mem weekend) & I'm going to the grocery store to get the food to make his stuff up. They always have stuff in foil packs to cook on the campfire.
TIA |

Re: Meals for camping - foil packs?
The last time we went camping, I put a piece of tilapia, some sliced carrots and potatoes and herbs like oregano and rosemary with a pat of butter. Foil packets just went on the coals. I also wrapped some corn on the cob in some foil with butter and spices and that went into the coals also. DH still talks about that meal.
![]() you could do chicken instead of the fish also.

Re: Meals for camping - foil packs?
You could make breakfast packets with potatoes sliced really thin or even grated, onions and a few jones sausage links.
Maybe some ground beef, taco seasoning, corn, red peppers, onions for a southwestern packet. |

Re: Meals for camping - foil packs?
I remember my Grandma making baked potatoes in the campfire. She'd make slices in the potatoe and stick in pats of butter and slices of onion. Then wrap it in foil and place on coals. Soooo good.

Re: Meals for camping - foil packs?
Okay I LOVE Camping meals, Here goes:
First Hamburger Allafoil not sure the spelling but that's how you say it.LOL)When I was growing up we all got to make our very own so it was FUN!! Anyway you each make up a hamburger patty. Then peel and chunk up potatos, carrots (sometimes mom would use baby carrots), and an onion, I didn't like onions so my mom would eat mine, LOL Then sprinkle on Lawrys seasoning salt and let it cook NEAR the fire until tender. It's soooo yummy my mouth is watering right now. Okay for Breakfast: We did a lot of burritos: You can do either egg and sausage or just egg. Cook them like scrambled on on the fire, then get the burritos warm and serve together. this is actually a VERY easy meal to make while camping. When my family goes hunting they always do this for the GROUP and just make up a TON of it and whatever doesn't get eatin' one day is used as left overs for the next. Okay this can be a breakfast or a Dessert!! Take an apple and core it. Put Sugar and butter in the middle. Wrap in foil. Let cook until tender. WE did these individually also which made them fun. Dessert: Banana Boats: Take bananas and cut a V out of the middle. (You're making a canoe thus BOATS) Leave the outter peel on!! Once you have your boat open the flap. Take marshmellows and choc. hershey bars (broken pieces) and place them into the canoe. Again this was a dessert we made however we wanted. Mom always just gave us the marshmellows and ONE choc. bar to do whatever we wanted. WE would try to come up with cute patterns you know like two choc. one marsh. anyway put your flap back down and then wrap in foil and let cook until it's VERY mushy. Take them out and open the flap eat with a spoon. This is one of the BEST things I've EVER eaten anywhere. I know they sound gross but they are AWESOME. I had to talk my dh's family into trying them and now that's all they ever talk about!! Have fun. Sorry I put so many memories in, but it really takes me back. I can't wait to take my little girl camping!

Re: Meals for camping - foil packs?
when i went to guide camp we did alot of the foil meals. one for breakfast was take a peice of bread cut a circular hole in the middle with a cookie cutter then crack an egg into the hole and wrap it up and toss it on a grate over the fire and in a few minutes you'll have egg in a toast hole
