If you take foster kiddos to visitation....

Do you take your own children? Why or why not?

Yes at this time I take my LO, because she is still little. As she gets older and we have foster kids, not every time.
Why? Cause she will be in school or we get back late or bio parent is not friendly or one on one with foster child time (meanwhile she will have one on one with me or DH too)

If I have my own kids with, I drop the baby off. Basically, a case aid meets me and takes the baby/kid from the car. Only once did I have to go in with one of my bio kids and it was a little awkward.

We home school so yes, they come with me. No real way for bio parents to not meet my kids. Its a little uncomfortable but I think it was a good thing for the bios to meet the kids that their daughters have been living and playing with.

Mine come along usually because we homeschool & they are usually with me. It's just for dropping off or picking up though.
I should add that all of our visits here are at the dss building & we drop off to a CW in the parking lot.

I try to avoid it. His moms house is in a neighborhood where things happen that I dont want my dd exposed to.

I did not, but I had to stay in the building for the whole visit. For awhile, they were at the jail. I don't want my kids exposed to those places. Either my mom, DH, or my neighbor kept DD (ages 2,3, and 4 during his case).

Re: If you take foster kiddos to visitation....

My two and five year old go with me to drop of/pick up kids from visits at DSS, they go with me to dr. appts where the bios are present as well, and the last baby I had went to lunch with his bios during parenting class for an hour. I brought my girls and they had lunch as well. If I thought the bios might say or do something inappropriate, I would have not stayed for lunch. I've never dealt with bios that were not appropriate during exchanges.

Re: If you take foster kiddos to visitation....

I almost never do. With our last placement I did it a few times, as the visit was after church. The first visit was with my 2 youngest along & I thought it would be a good opportunity to model healthy eating, but it had no effect. I would never take my son with & had several conversations with my daughters after, cause mom liked to wear a thong & bend over. a lot. She liked to show the goods from the front AND back numerous times every visit. She obviously got lots of attention from the dads on the playground...
