My first Waldorf {inspired} doll

After seeing different threads about waldorf dolls, I decided to see what the "hype" was about and now love the dolls. I had never seen them before 2ish weeks ago. As nice as they are, there is no way I can purchase one so I decided to try my hand at it. I wanted to start off small so this is my first attempt.

It is only inspired as I didn't want to buy all the proper materials and have it turn out terrible. Baby is about 10" from head to toe. For the head, I used a wound ball of wool yarn from a sweater I had purchased from Sal. Val. and around that I wrapped cotton batting. I didn't have the stockinette so I used a child's sock instead. The skin fabric is some off white cotton knit that I had in my stash (a little light but oh well). The minky fabric I had purchased well over a year ago from the remnant bin at Joann. It is very lightly stuffed in the arms and legs with polyfill and the torso and hands are stuffed with cotton batting.

Another pic (sorry about the lighting, taken with my phone)

This is going to be a Christmas present for the baby I am expecting. My 6 yr old son would like a larger doll, probably a 16" but I need to get the materials now. Any tips from the doll makers would be much appreciated.

Thanks for looking!

That's one of the best first-time dolls I've seen! Really great job on the facial embroidery as well as the proportions (head/body/arms/legs) - well done!

Re: My first Waldorf {inspired} doll

You did a great job! I would second Wier dolls or http://www.etsy.com/shop/ThisChildDolls?page=2 on etsy- Joy (from Joy's Waldorf dolls) retired a few years ago, but this shop is selling her patterns, kits and supplies.

The head pattern sizing rings found on the etsy site are SO helpful- really lets you be sure your wool is sized properly.

Also this book: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/re.../dp/1903458587 Is wonderful resource, includes patterns for super tiny to larger sized dolls, and clothing patterns as well. So you'd just get the supplies you need from a shop.

Good luck! It is addicting... I have 4 small velour bodies/heads/hats waiting for stuffing and a mini-millet filled baby parts as well, and my daughter is "wishing I had another big friend for Cinderella" . I LOVE making them .
