I'd try to find a pull out couch. When my friend searched Craigslist se found a variety in the $50-100 range & wound up with a newer one. The mattresses are not comfortable- but you could use a pillow topper.
We have many korean friends who actually use a few blankets and a thick foam topper on the floor, and then they can just roll it up out of the way! Again- it might not be the most comfortable option, but you'd have something better than now + open floor space during the day.

Re: Can a toddler bed be used as a sofa?

i think a twin daybed with trundle would work perfect, just put lots of pillow behind when its a coach, a sofa bed or a futon would be horribly uncomfortable!

futons can me okay in comfort but they are pricy when you get into that level of comfort. Sofa beds have come a LONG way and their are some quite comfortable ones that wont break the bank.

Thank you for all the advice everyone. We ended up getting lucky and receiving a free twin captain's bed from a family member. Now I'm in the process of looking for cheap cushions to make up the back. We haven't picked it up yet but I can't wait to have my own place to sleep, lol!
