Oooh I like this one! I'm a teacher too and I know how names are. Pronunciation of this one should be Lay-kin with the last syllable having a short I.

I've never heard of Lah-kin either but then again Lay-kin isn't very common. That is what I was going for!

Re: Name spelling help!

I prefer Laken because that is most common spelling of the name. I wouldn't change the spelling to make it more girly. I don't think it makes a name more girly to spell it differently. I think it is a gender neutral name that is more commonly used for girls. It has never been that popular and only ranked for girls a few years in the 90s. I could see it becoming more used and ranking again based on baby center ranks but as of right now it is more commonly used for girls. It ranks in the 300s on baby center as a girls name but not at all as a boys name.

Re: Name spelling help!

It's on our list as well, for a girl, but spelled Laken...neither of us looks for alternate spellings, though.

Re: Name spelling help!

Laikyn and Laykin is Lay--kin
Lakin is La-kin

If its lay-kin I like Laikyn.

Depends on what you are looking for.

Re: Name spelling help!

I mean, you can pronounce a name however you want, but to conform w/ our regular pronunciation rules, if the vowels are separated by a single consonant, the first vowel is a "long" vowel...Lakin is pronounced the same as Laykin, Laikin, Laken...all the same as far as common pronunciation is concerned (actually the "ay" would create a diphthong & would be a slightly different sound, but whatever). "La-kin" would have to be spelled like Lackin or something like that.

Spell it however appeals to you
