The Zen books (Zen Ties, Zen Shorts, Zen Ghosts) by Jon Muth. His artistry is very special, and it features a big, talking panda named Stillwater. It has some sophisticated concepts, but I think any 2 year old could get something out of it and add to their understanding over the years.

Another book that captivated my daughter was The Little Island, which was actually written by the Goodnight Moon author under a pseudonym.

I love these book threads! There is a list of 100 (I think) books that are must reads for kids . . . does anyone know what I'm talking about? It was mentioned on another book thread, maybe in the past 6 months or so? Figured I would ask again, rather than trying to search.
