Re: Who's found their tried and true wash routine??

Our routine hasn't changed much at all in the past almost 2 years we've been CDing. We're living in our third state in that time and our water has been soft the whole time. (I'm pretty sure anyway.)

Cold rinse
Hot wash with 1/4 capful Sun detergent
Cold rinse with 1/2 c vinegar
Cold rinse

I think that where we are now, the water might be hard or at least more so than our previous two locations and I'm finding that an extra hot wash instead of two cold rinses is working better to get the detergent out. I only do it that way if I can catch it right after the first wash cycle and then I do just one cold rinse.

Re: Who's found their tried and true wash routine??

our tried and true method is
cold cycle nothing added for a rinse
HOT wash (turn up water heater all the way before starting cold wash so its HOT) with 1 TBSP (1.25-1.5 if REALLY yucky) Charlies soap
then HOT cycle for a rinse.
dry in either the dryer or on the line.
all in a top loader with city water, not hard or soft, perfectly drinkable from the tap.

I had it down until I added FuzziBunz to the mix. ANd I've been experimenting and changing things ever since. I keep thinking of selling my FB off, but I just can't quite let them go.

Re: Who's found their tried and true wash routine??

I have hard water and here is what I have been doing now for 2 years ....

1) pre-rinse all poo dipes on cold with squirt of Palmolive (6 minutes) XS load
2) add all pee dipes and rinse again on cold (only 6 minutes) medium load
3) soak all dipes on cold with GSE and EO for at least 4 hours but usually overnight.
4) drain and add covers and wetbags. Wash on hot with 1/2 cap of Store brand F & C detergent.
5)Hot rinse
6) Hang all covers, wetbags, and solid pockets. Put all fitteds, prefolds, wipes, AI2's, print pockets and inserts into the dryer on high.

Voila...all done and easy peasy. No stinkies here as long as I do not overstuff the washer...LOL In winter I have to use more detergent as the winter water is weird but still no prblems here,

Re: Who's found their tried and true wash routine??

Well for over a year now its pretty much been like this although tweaked a little from time to time:

-cold wash with half scoop of baby oxyclean (discovered this when we had stinkies once and it took care of them )
-extra rinse
-hot wash with half cap or less of detergent (All f&c) plus a squirt of dawn
-extra rinse
-dry all the dipes on high for 80-90 min.

Also I use TTO or Lavendar oil in our wahmies pail liner on the little piece of hemp that's sewn inside and this REALLY helps w/stinkies and cleaner dipes

Re: Who's found their tried and true wash routine??

Cold wash with nothing, sometimes some borax if there's a lot of poop.
Hot wash with 1/4 cup biokleen and cold rinse x2.

Been going strong for 3+ months and no issues.

Re: Who's found their tried and true wash routine??

This routine is new but is working well so far
1. cold rinse (two if there is yucky poo)
2. warm wash with dawn/cold rinse
3. cold wash/cold rinse no detergent, bit of vinegar
4. cold wash/cold rinse with nothing
5. dry everything on hot for 80-90 minutes

We have city water, not sure if it is soft or hard ..
