Nose bleeds

My 2 year 9 month old has had a few incidents lately. Two nights ago she had just a little dribble out of her nose at dinner. Easily wiped up with a rag and it stopped.

Last night she bled all over her bed. It's everywhere on her pillow, night gown, face, and arms. I know it's probably not as much as it looks like but this is definitely more than a dribble.

What's going on?

My son and I are prone to nosebleeds. We have always been told by the doctors that it is because we have thin membranes and they are very dry. The only thing that keeps them from happening is vaseline up the nose every few days.

Probably dryness. Try a little bit of saline spray before bed and use a humidifier.

Re: Nose bleeds

DD had these issues starting about the time she turned 3. She's 5.5 now and hasn't had one in a few months. Things that helped:

No fan in her bedroom
Run a humidifier
Vaseline in the nose
Zyrtec (sometimes - not during the summer because it was more due to dryness, but she had allergies in the spring and her rubbing/blowing her nose was aggravating it)

She was having them a few nights a week for anywhere from 30 min to 2 hours. It was SO frustrating. We were just about to the point where the doctor was going to cauterize her nose, but I think she's grown out of it finally.

My son and myself did this at her age and up. We have Von Willebrand's. It is actually the most common form of of hemophilia and least diagnosed. It could easily be that. I would call the pedi if it continues and get her checked. It is a simple blood test.

Re: Nose bleeds

I would get random nosebleeds like crazy all the way up until I had my first daughter and really havent had one since! Our 3 year old has gotten a couple in the last few months and we aren't sure why- I assume she has the same issue that I did. We keep a bottle of YL Cypress oil on hand and as soon as it starts we rub a drop on either side of her nose and it stops within seconds.
