failed my 1 hour glucose :(

Well failed my one hour glucose pretty bummed
never had GD with my 2 other kiddos...
funny thing though- so they drew 3 vials of blood dr wanted more done than just 1 hour test.
- a CBC showed my glucose at 157
the 1 hour g test showed 142
trange huh? you would "think" the numbers would be the same...
so either way they did not like the #'s and i have to do the dreaded 3 hour
I can't do it until i get back from vacation in aprox 2 weeks so in the mean time i have to watch my diet according to my dr's and eat a diabetic / very low sugar diet. Prob for the best anyway but kinda depressing right before vacation.

any other mom's out there with this sort of thing going on?

Re: failed my 1 hour glucose :(

I failed the one hour last time and then passed the 3 hour easily. Honestly, I thought it was no big deal. Just a little more time to read. I think I just ate something prior to the one hour that made my blood sugar higher than if I had just done it fasting (like you do with the 3 hour).

I didn't have an issue with GD in either pregnancy (gained 25-30 lbs, smallish babes -- so I feel pretty sure that that one test was in error) so I'm not sure about that one discrepant test, but I wouldn't worry too much.

Re: failed my 1 hour glucose :(

last pregnancy, my 1-hour was 160. I passed the 3-hour though. I think I had eaten my craving at 11 pm the night before (sliced banana with agave syrup, lol).

Most moms that fail the 1-hour PASS the 3 hour. Just make sure you don't overload on sweets/carbs and don't eat past 8pm the night before.

My test was 92 this time but I made sure I didn't screw up the diet the day before and I'm craving healthy stuff.

Re: failed my 1 hour glucose :(

I did have GD during my first pregnancy. I was bummed that I failed the 1-hour by 3 points (133) and then I failed the 3-hour by a similarly slim margin. Anyway, it does suck to do have to do the diet and testing if you fail the 3-hour, but try not to stress about it too much.

I got diagnosed with GD this time. Didn't have it with the last two.
I too just barely "failed"
I have been watching my diet and testing 4 times a day.
My fasting levels lately have been higher some days so they are talking insulin at night
Doctor says hormones peak at 33 weeks do sometimes diet control can do it until then.
If I continue to have higher morning levels I have to see him again

Lab geek here . A CBC doesn't check glucose. Maybe that's why the numbers don't match up, your seeing results for a different test.

Oh the midwife told me they tested my glucose in the blood panel that was done and did the 1 hour as well plus electrolytes I think? She gave me 2 numbers that were over what they like to see ...

I took the one our at 7:30 am and had not eaten a thing since 8pm the night before and had only water to drink no juices or soda that entire day prior and no sweets... I didn't cut all carbs the day before but I watched what I ate and basically fasted so I am a tad nervous. I was told that my first blood draw at around 9 weeks showed high levels of something that coincided with pre diabetes I can't remember what exactly but she said that it made sense I failed due to the very early blood draw results.

For my second pregnancy my doctor said he no longer does the one hour test because there were too many false positives. He found he had more accurate results with the two hour. Fingers crossed for you.

Yep my clinic changed from the one hour to a two hour test. They said research showed that there were way too many false positives with the 1 hr. I failed the one hour with both my previous pregnancies. I took the two hour with this one and passed it just fine.
