I have a standard sized crock pot, and it holds 1/2 gallon of milk. I also use 1/2cup of yogurt at my starter

Sweet thanks! I'm going to do the crockpot method.

Re: Yogurt failure ?

It could be a culture problem. Not enough cultures won't allow probiotics to breed. I always buy a pot of decent Greek yoghurt to start I've not had much luck with reserving from the last batch.

Yaaaaaay! It does seem thick in the crock but trust me, you want to strain it. All the whey is towards the bottom and it's really soupy underneath the firm top layer!

So glad it worked for you!!

Re: Yogurt failure ?

I have it straining but I hardly saw any whey so I am anxious to see how much strains out. It made a TON and have no clue how we will eat that much. Does it stay good 7-10 days? I am hoping to start some smoothies also. I am so excited to do this and have shared my "new" recipe w/ a couple of friends on FB

I store mine in glass jars towards the back of the fridge and it easily lasts 2 weeks. It typically doesn't make it that long, though, haha
