You are reasonable. She's insane. My area is one if the richest in the country and while nannies may make $30-40,000 (Idk if they do), the work way more than a few hours a day and do more than just babysit.

This!

She is high! I would be thrilled to watch your child in my home for those hours and that pay.

Is she looking to watch kids? Maybe she offered so high because she doesn't really want the job?

Honestly I don't know anyone who gets paid $23/hour to watch a kid. Most people would not be able to pay that much.

Here day care is $19.20 per full day, so $9.60 per half day. You were definitely offering more than enough!

I am a provider, I am on my senior year of my bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education, have 4 additional staff members and I do not charge anywhere near that. There is no one in the state or Oregon I know that would charge that much! The highest rates in our state are in Portland and for a highly specialized Montessori program it would break down to about $7.50 an hour ($1500 a month full time) which is almost 3x what I charge as a high quality program in a rural area. Of course, normal programs will ask you to commit to a set part time or full time spot, but that amount per hour is just outrageous!!!

Here you pay about $125 a week and that's from 8am-6pm every day! I charge higher, $35 for a full day, but I only take 1 family at a time and provide lunch, field trips, etc.

We don't vaccinate, we kept our sons intact, we use cloth diapers, we co-sleep, we extended RF, we breastfeed, but we watch too much tv and I totally dig plastic! Everyone has their issues, lol.

She is the unreasonable one.
Minimum wage is $7.25 and hour in Virginia, like in NY, so she is way in over her head being that she has no experience. She definitely believes you must be earning lots of money.
Lots of people here would have jumped at the chance to care for him. Heck, I was getting less than $2 an hour caring for my niece-in-law, but then again I knew her mom was making minimum wage.
You should let her know that is too much for you to pay her. Hope you find someone else.
