Re: Crazy child care price? Was my offer insulting?

I pay $20.00 a day, if I had to pay by the hour, I'd be better off staying home with no income, lol. BUT, I do know some people that get paid $10.00+ per hour to watch kids.

I noticed some people quoting sitter prices and it just isn't the same thing. A sitter is usually just a few hours a week so it make sense to pay a little more otherwise the amount of money earned isn't worth the commitment. For example is $15 worth it for a teenager to give up 3 hours of a Saturday night? Maybe, $15 an hour would probably be enough though. This is 3.5 hours a day which is more like a part time child care spot or extended preschool program.

I think your offer was very reasonable.

Child care here averages to about 400 a week. That's in a daycare setting. Private care in your home or the providers home is $15 to 17 an hour. My 14 year old went babysitting last weekend and made $12 an hour. Unfortunately we are in a very high col aea

Do you mind me asking where?? $80/day is crazy high. I charge as much as $50/day for drop
in infants. That's crazy high to some people but $80?? Dang! I'd be rolling in the dough LOL

I think your offer was more then reasonable Here daycare at a licensed center is $16 per 5 hour block per child and non licensed care providers in their home get $8 per 5 hour block of care provided per child that is the rate set by the state.

She's nuts. I pay $20 a day for full time care for my baby and the toddler gets a hefty sibling discount.

Re: Crazy child care price? Was my offer insulting?

I sometimes watch my friend's 3 year old when her provider can't. She gives me $20 for the day and I provide all the food. It is from 7:30 in the morning until 5:30 in the evening. LONG day and not the worth the money really, I make a whole lot more sewing and selling that stuff but I'd never ask for so much more like in the OP. I mostly do it to help out and I'm here with my kids anyway so why not.
