Bunk beds, new baby, my brain is shot

I want to start combining the boys and their toys into one room, so I need to get them some bunk beds. I'd prefer to do it sooner than later so DS2 doesn't feel kicked out of his crib for the new baby. They'll be 6 (in December) and 3 (in February) by the time the baby comes. I'm trying to decide when to do it. DH is gung ho and ready to do it this week. I'm wondering if we should wait. Then again, maybe sooner is better. I don't know. Opinions, please?

I'd do it now so your youngest has a chance to her used to his new Ed and you can get through his restless/get out of bEd constantly nights before the newbie comes! You may also be a safety rail to put in the open side o the bed so he feels a little more enclosed & remind him of his crib.

I would do it now so he can adjust. The longer he has to get used to the idea of his new bed the less likely he is to associate the loss of his crib with the baby. If he moves now he is more likely to be excited about it as a new "big boy" thing. Plus if he has any regression or issues you can deal with it while you aren't exhausted with a newborn.

I agree to do it now. Get him used to it before you have a newborn that needs constant attention. He may move right to a big boy bed with no problems.

I would no it now. I put my girls in big beds just before they were three and it worked great. That way he has a chance to get really used to it before you have your baby.

Do it! We put the boys in bunkbeds when we were getting ready for baby #3. At that point they were 2y3m and 4y5m, and had been in a toddler and a twin bed. We got the Mydal bed from Ikea. They were old enough and the transition went great! They still use that bed 5 years later.

I just picked that same bed up today. It's in my garage right now!

Another vote to do it now! Dd (5) and ds (3) started sharing a room before I even got pregnant by choice...they asked and we let them knowing that we were trying. We finally got the bunk beds 2 weeks ago and I wish we would have don't that sooner...but we needed to spend money other places in the house. They are adjusted fine...but they are both sleeping on the bottom bunk together now after a week of dd being Gung ho about sleeping on top. It really is fine, but I worry about their quality of sleep when they are both on the bottom.

Re: Bunk beds, new baby, my brain is shot

I see you already bought the bed but I guess I'm the only one that would wait it out. I'd decorate their room and make it huge deal for their birthdays. (December and February are close enough, I think) Maybe do it over Christmas break and make it a big deal because he is a big boy now, not because of the baby. Then again, I'm 25 weeks and I haven't done the first thing to get a space ready for this baby. The cradle has been in my room for 9 years since I've used it with all the kids but right now it is full of clean laundry plus we co-sleep for the first year so I haven't felt a need to make much space for the baby. However, if we were having a girl, I would be making a nursery for her and put ds2 and ds3 together but I'm not so that is irrelevant. Good luck with the new room situation!
