Wink Help! Dessert question

We're going to the neighbours' house for dinner tomorrow with his parents there as well. We're to bring dessert and wine. But what dessert? I 'd like to make one, but I'm, um, challenged in the culinary department. Wine I've got covered . Please help me?

Re: Help! Dessert question

If you do not want to cook anything, and have a Trader Joes, I like to buy the cheesecake bites they have, arrange them on a nice platter, and add some cut up fruit. It all looks nice but I haven't done a thing

Crescent rolls, a little butter, cinnamon, sugar and a peeled apple slice. Bake it just like you would a plain crescent roll. Great fall dessert.

Trifle perhaps.

That's tough. I'd say bake a pie maybe. If you purchase a frozen shell you could possibly pull off chocolate custard pie and whip up some fresh cream at the neighbour's.

If you're buying, I'd bring Italian cookies. Or canoli.

Re: Help! Dessert question

How about homemade brownies with some fruit? Here's the brownie recipe I use. It's easy and delicious!!

1/2 cup white sugar
2 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. water
1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
2/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

1. Preheat the oven to 325. Grease an 8x8 inch square pan.

2. In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, butter and water. Cook over medium heat until boiling. Remove from heat and stir in chocolate chips until melted and smooth. Mix in the eggs and vanilla. Pour chocolate mixture into a large mixing bowl. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; stir into chocolate. Spread evenly into the prepared pan.

3. Bake for 25-30 minutes (mine take 30), until brownies set up. Do not overbake. Cool in pan and cut into squares. Tip- for easier removal, line pan with foil before greasing & filling.

These Peach Melba Shortbread Bars are easy, delicious, and pretty. I mix the dough in my food processor to make it even easier.
