I would take him to the ER since he did hit his head today.

Re: 7 year old suddenly rapidly blinking nonstop ???

my step son has been doing the eye blinking thing for a while. it's progressed to a vocal tic as well. kinda like clearing his throat. he's had multiple tics for a while, first his tic was a cough, then he was mumbling something, then the eye blinking and now he does both eye blinking at the throat clearing thing. it gets annoying.

I would take him to the dr if there was anything that happened. like you said he did hit his head so it wouldn't hurt to take him to his dr to have it checked out.

My 5 yr old did this for a few months last year. He has PDD NOS, though. It was a tic that jagged for a bit. He also was touching his head to his sholders after that. It was weird. I would not worry, but I am used to things like this with my children. You can call the nurse line and see if they want him to be seen.

Re: 7 year old suddenly rapidly blinking nonstop ???

Ended up calling the ER and talking to a nurse last night, who said bring him in. They ran a ct scan and it came back clear, thinking minor concussion, resume normal activities but nothing strenuous. but we're supposed to follow up with pediatrician this morning. Couldn't get through on phone, went ahead and sent DS to school and swung by ped's office, showed him a video of what DS was doing and he ordered a stat EEG...but the ONLY doc in our area apparently qualified to read children's EEG results is out until Tuesday :/ DS has a follow up on Monday afternoon, potentially another depending on EEG results, and we're just carefully watching until then. They're thinking the onset within 12 hours of a head injury is just too coincidental to think its "just a tic" and are leaning towards a side effect of the concussion. He has NO other "typical" concussion symptoms though. Ped said if it continues through the weekend we'll probably be getting a neuro referral.

Re: 7 year old suddenly rapidly blinking nonstop ???

This happened to me when I was about 10. It only happened in my left eye. I do not know if they are related, but shortly after it began, I found out I needed glasses and my left eye (the rapidly blinking one) was my weakest.
