Cabbage recipes???

My husband brought home a giant head of white cabbage. I'm pretty sure I've never seen a bigger cabbage! They were on sale and he paid a whopping $0.62 for it. A good deal but I have no idea how to use it up - we generally don't eat cabbage. So far, I've made 2 casseroles (sort of like deconstructed cabbage rolls) and a batch of soup. I've still got about 1/2 of the thing left and I've run out of ideas. We are not coleslaw fans and I don't want to fiddle around with rolling up cabbage rolls. Does anyone have some other good recipes or ideas to help me finish off this monster cabbage?? I want it out of my fridge!

We love fried cabbage. It is not necessarily healthy....but yummy.

Melt a good amount of butter in a skillet, add chopped cabbage, sprinkle with salt and a good amount of pepper. Cook, stirring every so often, it until it is soft and starts to brown.

I've never had fried cabbage. Think I'll give it a try - sounds really easy. Thanks!

We fry cabbage and add whatever meat I have on hand. Usually ground turkey or sausage or a smoked sausage.

Re: Cabbage recipes???

Chinese chicken salad? Its delicious
Chinese Chicken Salad

Ingredients

1 Head of cabbage, shredded

2 cups Diced chicken

3 Green onions, chopped

2 bags (4 oz.) sliced almonds (Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes)

2 packages Chicken Top Ramen noodles (remove seasoning mix)

Dressing:

1 cup Oil (canola or vegetable)

2 packages Top Ramen seasoning mix

2 tbsp. Sugar

6 tbsp. Red Vinegar

2 tbsp. Sesame seeds (Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes)

2 tsp. Sesame seed oil

Preparation

In a large mixing bowl, combine cabbage, chicken, and onions. After almonds and

sesame seeds have cooled slightly -add to bowl.

Break apart the Top Ramon noodles into the bowl.

In a separate bowl, mix together dressing ingredients. Pour dressing into mixing

bowl, stirring until all ingredients are coated. Refrigerate.

Cook's Notes
Tastes better the

second day. You also can add a couple shakes of soy sauce if wanted. If you want

the noodles crunchy instead of soft – don’t mix in until ½ hour before eating.

Re: Cabbage recipes???

I'd agree with frying cabbage and onions with some sausage or something.

Re: Cabbage recipes???

I like to make stir fry substituting the noodles or rice for thinly sliced cabbage. I just stir fry a ton of it along with the other veggies. It's fabulous that way!

I have a German recipe that I can get for you if you want. It involves sautéing apples and onions, then stewing cabbage seasoned with sugar, salt and wine vinegar with it. So delicious.

Re: Cabbage recipes???

I often steam it and serve with butter and salt, especially with corned beef.

Shredded and freid with kielbasa sausage

Extras I usually shred and mash with salt, press into a jar, cover (loosely) and let it salt ferment on the counter. Salt fermented saurkraut is delicious. Add jalapenos for a little spice

Re: Cabbage recipes???

We finely chop raw cabbage and squeeze lime juice over it. Leave 30 mins on counter to marinate. Serve in fish tacos with chipotle sauce. It gives a nice, citrusy crunch.
