We do something like this with red cabbage - my hubby is Danish and it's traditional to eat it with pork or meatballs. Not sure why it never occurred to me to do the same thing with this white cabbage. Thanks for the idea!

We've done the fried cabbage a couple of times now (very nice!) and only have a bit of this giant thing left. Thanks everyone!

Re: Cabbage recipes???

Colcannon. Cut cabbage in small pieces, steam and then mix with mashed potatoes and butter. Yummy!

Mine is for red cabbage too, but I use green cabbage and acv instead of the wine vinegar if green is what I have. Comes out great.

We eat it with sauerbraten when we are lucky.

How about Irish Colcannon - mashed potatoes with cabbage. Yum!

Melt a good amount of butter in a skillet, add chopped cabbage, sprinkle with salt and a good amount of pepper. Cook, stirring every so often, it until it is soft and starts to brown.
I do this but lower heat and a lid so its more steamed, then serve it with other vegetables. My favorite is with lentil soups with extra carrots. I COVER the cabbage with lentil soup. It's SO good.

Re: Cabbage recipes???

I tried a recipe once that was like mashed potatoes with cabbage. Sounds weird, tasted good...let's see if I can find it...ahh...look up Colcannon.

ETA: hehe...I should read all the way through the thread next time...looks like someone already suggested this!

Re: Cabbage recipes???

I made roasted cabbage with lemon juice and mustard last night, it was amazing, so delish!

Really similar to this recipe but added juice of 1 lemon mixed with T. Dijon mustard drizzled over halfway thru cooking.
