Re: Tricks to keep shoes on in car?

Yep, if they're 2 or older, they go barefoot after taking off their shoes in the car. That doesn't always work at stores though

I just waited it out. They outgrow it eventually.

I still take my shoes off in the car sometimes, so the kids doing it just doesn't bother me unless we are in a hurry.

We've done a bit of the above. When they are little we just kept reminding them. Then we started making them walk in w no shoes. Now at 5 and 3. They ask if they can and we allow it for long trips. The three y o will still do it though at times

Re: Tricks to keep shoes on in car?

Lots of times, I don't bother to put shoes on my kids. I'm lazy and don't want to do it twice. I just bring shoes and socks.

It backfired once though...we got to the zoo and DD1 was 4 with no shoes or socks. I'd left them sitting just inside the front door. She had to ride in the stroller the whole time and was so upset!

Mostly distraction or double knotting the 2 yo's shoes. Drives me nuts only when she throws the shoe at her baby sister after taking it off.

Yeah it didn't bother me in summer but having to put socks and shoes on at every stop is a pain plus weare in chilly New England. My guy is young though... Looks like I'll have to suffer quite awhile lol

Re: Tricks to keep shoes on in car?

Ok, I am going to think outside the box here for you. If its driving you nuts to put shoes and socks on (it would me!) then I would go for something either harder to remove OR easier for you to put on. Since its cold, I would seriously consider putting tights under the child's pants to use as socks. Can't be removed and will give an extra layer of warmth anyway (consider them long underwear with feet, lol) and then some lace up boots like these double knotted. Boots can't be slipped off as easily. Bwahaha! Foiled!

If you don't want to do that, then I'd just find something totally opposite and easy to slip on and off. Velcro shoes or rain boots. Then it just takes a couple seconds to stick 'em back on when you stop. IME toddlers LOVE rain boots so that could be a plus. Good luck!

Re: Tricks to keep shoes on in car?

This is so my daughter! She is about 20 months too and loves to take shoes and socks off and put her socks on her hands like puppets

I decided not to fight it and instead make sure the shoes are easy for me to put on her. Sometimes bringing books for her to look at keeps the shoes on.

I also remind myself that this is a big part of development and growing up. She practices all the time (seriously, her favorite thing to do is drag out 3-4 pairs of shoes and she tries them all on in our living room).

I think she will grow out of it or be more able to put them back on herself in a few months. I also noticed when the weather suddenly got really cold (for a week or so) she left her shoes on in the car. Now we have warmed back up for a couple of days and off the shoes go!

Dd does this too.

Unfortunately...she also rips the knees in her tights. :/ Boredom I guess. I give her things as distraction but she doesn't care.
