Thanksgiving menu!

I'm hosting Thanksgiving for the first time this year! It will be a small group, 6 (maybe 8) adults and 5 kids. We'll be having a pretty traditional meal with the roasted turkey, stuffing, mashies and gravy...but I'd like to work in a few new things too. So inspire me! What are your Thanksgiving favorites?

Re: Thanksgiving menu!

I have to have sweet potatoes, specifically Senator Russell's Sweet Potato Casserole. I dip my turkey in it.

I serve blanched then sauteed green beans with roasted red pepper strips, caramelized onions, and slivered almonds. I make a quick pan sauce with white balsamic vinegar, butter, and brown sugar. I season it to taste with salt and pep. I have no idea what you call it, but I've been making it for years and it's gorgeous but stable.

Shallot and port wine cranberry sauce. It's savory more than sweet and I look forward to it very year. Heaven the next day on Brie

Roasted Brussels sprouts with crumbled bacon, drizzled with balsamic

Re: Thanksgiving menu!

The sides that I signed up for (because I have recipes that I LOVE for these) are sweet potato casserole and gravy. Last year I found an awesome make-ahead gravy. Here's a link: http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2...vy-recipe.html

Re: Thanksgiving menu!

pumpkin pie, it isn't Thanksgiving without pumpkin pie. I also like pecan pie. I found a gluten free version of pumpkin pie that I love.

I'm mostly plant based (not totally vegan but close) this year so my Thanksgiving will look a bit weird. It will also only be dh, the kids and I. We will have mashed purple potatoes, roasted Brussels Sprouts (my favorite thing), biscuits, and pumpkin pie. That is really more than enough food for the four of us. When we go to the IL's I will probably make pumpkin bars (also gluten free, I can't have gluten).
