I have a clogged duct :(

It's so painful I can't tell if he's emptying it at all

What has worked for you to fix this. ? I've tried hot compress, massage, feeding in different positions in the clogged side at every feeding..... He's asleep now so I'm about to pump. Any other suggestions?

I've had luck with a "personal massager" on the spot of the duct while we nursed or pumped. An electric toothbrush will work too, in a pinch.

Hope you get it cleared- I hate those!

Do you have a hand pump?

I go into the shower- HOT water- hot as I can stand it raining down on it then I gently massage and pump.

I've had really good luck with that method- between the hot water and massage to relax the area and pumping to draw the clog out, it always seems to work.

I do a really hot shower and massage it, then get out and immediately pump for as long as I can stand it. It has worked several times for me.

The only thing that works for me is fiddling with my nipple and finding/squeezing out the blockage. Instant fix. I've never had the patience for massaging and heat.

No bra. Hot bath/shower and massage. Nursing constantly. Nursing with baby's chin pointing to the plugged area (a fun acrobatic activity!).

Basically just constantly fussing over my boob like I have some kind of strange obsession until the plug is gone.

I had plugged ducts at least every other week for almost a year straight. I was never able to see/find the blockage in my nipple. An instant fix would have been lovely!

Re: I have a clogged duct :(

Lecithin helps me--a big dose for a while and then a maintenance dose to keep things clear (I seem to have one wonky duct that tends to clog.)

Here's the link on lecithin from Kellymom: http://kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mother/lecithin/

Ok I saw on some article on clogged ducts in the comments to pop the blistery spot, so I did, and then fed him . Now mist of the backed up milk is gone.... Siiiigh..... What a relief!! My breast is still sore but hopefully that's the end of that!
