Headband ideas

I want to make some fabric headbands for myself. I have a few but they are looking pretty tired.

Anyone come across any headband ideas or patterns in their travels?

My hair is also super slick currently and was wondering if there was a secret for a headband that doesn't slip off.

I don't like how she closes the end but overall it's quick & easy.

Re: Headband ideas

To keep the headband from slipping, you could use velvet for the bottom portion, or sew on a strip of velvet ribbon. Just make sure when you put it on the velvet is going in a direction that will grip your hair, not slide with it. Another idea I've heard of is using a strip of velcro on the bottom that will essentially grip to your hair...never tried that one though.

Here's some patterns/tutorials I've come across:

Thank you. This gives me a good start. I haven't heard of the velvet tip.

I have the same type of slippery hair as you, and I sewed this same type of twist-knot headband from jersey fabric for myself and for some gifts. I just made mine a little snugger than was called for by the measurements, and I use bobby pins in the back to hold it in place. works great for me!

I've heard of people using Lastin (clear elastic) for baby's/toddlers with fine hair. I saw someone do it on a tutorial for the flat on top with elastic in the back headbands. I can't find that one! But they were not reversible like the one in the link. Instead they had 2 strips of lastin (Unstretched) on the underside of the headband. (So the elastic was just a "gripper" not used as elastic)

I love headbands but they always end up slipping right off. I'm hoping I can customize the fit so they stay put.

That's a good idea. I'm trying to finish up some homeschooling stuff and then I'm getting started on trying these out.
