I use tide and have no issues, but I used cottonbabies samples while on vacation and had some stink issues and had to strip when I got home. I want to find an 'approved' detergent so that I don't immediately void the warranty on brand new diapers, but they don't sell any of them at Walmart (that I can find) and that's pretty much my only option.

Re: Detergent Poll: Mainstream vs. CD Safe

I have used 1 cloth diaper safe detergent and multiple non-cloth diaper safe detergents. I think Rock n Green is not even a detergent from my experience with it. Over priced scented powder.

Re: Detergent Poll: Mainstream vs. CD Safe

There is literally only one detergent out of 20 that I've tried that I've been able to use without either stink or rashes, and that's Tide. So I chose mainstream, even though there have been many a mainstream detergent that caused major problems.

I tried all those cloth safe detergents and battled stink issues with them all. I have found Original Tide works best, but I hate the way it smells.

Re: Detergent Poll: Mainstream vs. CD Safe

I use rockin green with no issues. Also I don't have a sprayer so I use the dunk method to remove poo. I don't scrub them or squeeze them out or anything so there are always some poo remnants (not ebf) on the diapers when they go in the pail. They always come out clean. I have not had any stink issues so far. I think (from what I've read) the water you have plays a bigger role in the problems with detergent than the actual detergent does.

I used Rockin green the first couple of months with stink and rashes. I've now been using tide powder for over a year with no issues.

I use Tide also and the smell gives me a headache, but it cleans the diapers so well that I put up with it.

By CD safe I mean detergents that are approved by diaper companies, most of whom have a list on their website. Mainstream to me means frowned upon by diaper companies/regular stuff you get at the grocery store. Mostly I'm curious to see how many people have actually used approved detergents without running into problems. Seems like so many people are using normal grocery store brands successfully and having problems with "safe" detergents. That gets frustrating when there is a stigma that the people using mainstream are breaking some kind of rule and doing something wrong.
Not all manufacturers frown on the detergents you can buy at the grocery store...

From http://www.gro-via.com/laundry-extras-detergents.html:

"There seems to be no ONE cloth diaper detergent that works for everyone.

The good new is that most major brands will work just fine: Tide, Purex, and Gain, to name a few. All of them will clean your diapers well. Just stay away from detergents with lots of plant oils, fabric softeners or bleach."

Re: Detergent Poll: Mainstream vs. CD Safe

I have been using mainstream detergent for 4 years with no issues, ever. Either arm and hammer or All. I use the normal recommended amount. I have no stink, no build up, no ammonia, never had to strip.

There is no way that anyone will convince me that diapers soiled in human waste can get truely clean with 2tbsp of detergent.

The one time I tried the "CD safe" I had to rewash my entire stash. I had instant ammonia.
