Just wondering about the differences across the U.S.

What are child care costs in your area? Where are you located if you don't mind sharing.

By child care costs I mean anything, daycare, preschool, babysitting etc.

Re: Just wondering about the differences across the U.S.

We pay our nanny $12/hr for one toddler, care is in our home. We also usually give 2 weeks paid vacation during the holidays. We are in a major city in the midwest.

ETA: This works out to $450-500 per week.

New mexico, infant daycare center is roughly $200-$250 a week, 18 months-2 years about $150-175 a week, 3-5 years more like $125-140 a week at a good center.

Re: Just wondering about the differences across the U.S.

I live in Iowa..

In home daycare provider-- 4 days of care ($160/week). $100/week for my 17 month old, $50 week for my 4.5 year old (Tues, Thurs, Fri only there in the morning, Wed all day), $10 week for my school age kid that is only there on early out Wednesday for about an hour.

DH is home on Mondays so no daycare. He goes to work late enough so he gets the oldest on the bus to school and then takes the other two to daycare. My middle rides the bus from daycare to preschool. I get off work and home in time to meet the oldest two bus after school.

Re: Just wondering about the differences across the U.S.

We are in the NYC area, there is a huge range. They daycare next to my office (Manhattan) is 2,700 a month full time.... 2,400 a month part time (which is what my daughter would be). The daycares in my neighborhood (another borough) are more like 1,000-1,400 a month for full time. The least expensive nanny I have heard of is 2,000 a month. But most nannys seem to be around 3,000 a month.

I live in Phoenix, and I charge $125 per week. (includes meals and preschool supplies)

The local Tutor time charges $235 per week, (also includes meals and preschool supplies... probably way better supplies than I have)
