I can only tell you what I pay. Midwest smallish college town with in home provider I pay roughly $140 per week total for my 2 kids (M-Th full days and F morn). My DCP gave us a fabulous sibling discount and we only have to pay for the hours they are in care (no holidays, sick days, vacation, etc).

My coworkers have priced church affiliated preschools to be $150 a month for 2 mornings a week. Most centers around here charge $2.75-3.25 an hour depending on age and require a contracted number of hours per week.

Central virginia-
25-35/day for in home per kid
$40-50 plus a day per kid for centers

We pay a 15 year old about $8 an hour to babysit 2 kids. College/adult age babysitters run $10-15 an hour for 2 kids.

Re: Just wondering about the differences across the U.S.

I live in Rhode Island- my 4 year old goods to preschool 2 days a week and I pay $114/week. That price covers from 7 am to 6 pm though she only goes from 7:30 am to 4 pm.

I was only sending her from 9-2, which are the actual preschool hours, but I recently went back to work so I was very glad that the money we were paying for tuition came with before and after care for no extra charge.

Re: Just wondering about the differences across the U.S.

Not sure of our current area because we've yet to need any such services in the last 2.5 months we've lived here, but where we just moved from(Upstate NY) we paid our mother's helper $8/hour(I was home) and $10/hour(when we weren't home). We haven't needed daycare since 2007 and I'm sure it's changed since then.

Re: Just wondering about the differences across the U.S.

HCOL here, and a median price is ~$200/week for an in-home daycare, price is the same for infants and non-infants. There isn't much cheaper that isn't sketchy, centers are more, and there are some places or preschools that I think go up to $500/week. I don't hear about anyone having nannies (the families with money tend to have a SAH spouse), and we have never had a babysitter.

Re: Just wondering about the differences across the U.S.

The last time I used daycare was 2010 it was between $1800-$2100 per month depending on a 4 or 5 week month. I paid a month at a time, on the first Monday of the month. If there were 4 mondays in the month it was toward the lower amount, five it was toward the higher. This was for 3 kids, aged 9, 7, 2.5.

Preschool costs looked like this:

2010/2011 - 2 day $140 per month
2011/2012 - 3 day $180 per month
2012/2013 - 5 day $200 or maybe $220 per month (don't remember)
2014/2015 - 3 day will be $190 per month

Southern Illinois

I am no longer sure as I haven't looked since I was pregnant more than 2 1/2 years ago. I think the cheapest place here was around $450 a month. The place stunk of dry rot and stale urine. I several times saw big black beatles crawling across the floor. Tables when wiped made the cloth a nasty brownrd y. Occasionally potty chairs were not emptied. I would have felt guilty leaving a dog there let alone my child. Sadly I was told it was not only the cheapest but one of the better ones in our local area.

Re: Just wondering about the differences across the U.S.

Boise, Idaho

Nanny/In-Home: $10/hr-$15/hr for all 3. This would be for occasional outings.

Daycare/Pre-school: $200/w infant, $140/w per other child. 5% sibling discount is pretty average.

There is no way I would ever consider working if I had to send my kiddos to daycare.
