After my sons tonsillectomy we had him drink out of his "mini" cup. Just a small medicine cup, we were able to measure, he felt accomplished when he drank it all and it was a new novelty. Every 10 minutes or so we would encourage a drink of his mini drink.

When my kids are sick they get to drink what ever they want (no dairy though). So for me if it's IV fluids or some sprite, they're getting the sprite. You need to hydrate him like a boss rt now.
I like the mini cup idea- I'll have to try that, especially since he has been taking medicine fine..... I just don't get why he won't drink- all the sores as far as I can tell are healed; and he is eating fine today- and doesn't appear to be in pain from eating; he just refuses to drink. I think he is being somewhat stubborn-it's so hard at this age to really know; and you can't reason, or convince.... He is doing better- he had 4 wet diapers today compared to 2 yesterday, and 1 or less the days before. It will come- he can't continue this forever....right???

No, it can't continue forever. Sometimes those sores hurt while they're healing. The Popsicles probably help his mouth feel better also. GL

Re: Looking for Ideas....

You know how you can hold your finger over the top of a straw, and hold the liquid in it, then let go of the top, and let the liquid go in your mouth.

Maybe try doing that with him. Like a Mama bird.

I'd try gatoraid and whatever floats his boat right now.

Shot glasses, medicine cups, Your drinks...etc.

Sonic has those tiny little ice cubes. You can buy him a Limeaid with extra ice.

Use the blender and ice with a little bit of flavoring and let him eat it with a spoon.

When dd2 was about this age she got sick and we just made Popsicles out of pedialyte and watered down juice. Or even just ice on a stick

If he had/has a sore throat, liquids non frozen might hurt too much, same with sippy cups and straws.

Popsicles count as liquid, so if he wants them, give them to him whenever he asks! Also the soda won't kill him, I promise.

Re: Looking for Ideas....

7up and pedialyte really aren't all that different so I wouldn't worry about that part!

I think I'd try make pedialyte popsicles! Or just give him the 7up. It won't be forever.

7up is caffeine free so its just like water. wink.
Pat yourself on the back for getting liquids down him! Whatever works.

Re: Looking for Ideas....

So, we went to walmart this morning and got a "new" cup (that is remarkably similar to his current cup- but when you are 1 that doesn't matter); and b/c it was "new", he liked it and has been carrying it around with him all morning- and even drank a half cup of juice/water out of it...

thanks mama's for all the support and Ideas, I appreciate it!!!!
