Re: Does your child's school have a Fall Break?

We start Friday, Aug. 2 and finish June 4. This year we go two extra days (June 6) because we missed 7 days of school so far.

While I hate going so late, and starting so early, the 2 week breaks really refresh the teachers' batteries when we need it most. I wouldn't change it for the world. The long spring break is also awesome for our AP and IB high school kids who have their papers/projects/tests in the spring and gives them 2 weeks of quiet to work on preparing.

My kids get a few extra days before or after Labor Day, then a few days around Thanksgiving, 2 weeks at Christmas/New Year's, an extra day after Presidents Day, 2 weeks for spring break, and other random days off. The school year is middle of August until the end of May.

Re: Does your child's school have a Fall Break?

We don't have anything called fall break. We get Wednesday - Friday off at Thanksgiving. A week or so at Christmas. The Monday off after MLK Monday which they call winter break just the one day.

Where we use to live in Idaho they had Harvest break at the end of Sept/ beginning of Oct. Most of the districts in the area had given it up, since so few kids are actually farm kids anymore, but the town we were in still had one.

Re: Does your child's school have a Fall Break?

We have Winter Break in Feb (right now) and spring Break in April besides the December break for Christmas and a couple days off at Thanksgiving.

We usually go until June 17th or so unless we have snow days to make up- I think we went until june 23rd last year, and start up again towards the 3rd week of aug.

Re: Does your child's school have a Fall Break?

My kids are in the same "balanced calendar" previously mentioned. Start August 1 (ish depending on the day off them it falls.) Then off 2 weeks end of October, 2 weeks end of December and 2 weeks end of March. Then the year ends May 31st. They still get Standard days off too, like Labor Day and Memorial Day and such.

Prior to switching to that though, they still got a 2 day "fall break" at the end of October. However, they never got "Presidents Week." Just the 1 day that Monday. When I worked in travel, I was shocked that there were schools that had that whole week off. It seemed to be a New England area/east coast kind of thing.
