Re: Plugged duct help?

I agree with the above mommies and be super careful because this can lead to mastitis. And that seriously hurts! Keep nursing and warm warm comprises! Good lick mama!

I have had the best luck using the handle of an electric toothbrush or other vibrating object-ahem- to massage it. It's like it just blasts it right out of there. It almost always takes care of it in only one or two sessions.

Only thing that works for me is having DS nurse it out. I've tried all the PP methods and they help - to a point. I then end up with a big blister on the nipple where the plug came out. No fun!

I'm trying to figure out tr cause - I think it's a combo of dehydration, exercise/sports bra, irregular milk removal (always seem to get on the weekend - not when I'm at work pumping) and increased solids.

In addition to what ever one has said a back massager/vibrater/electronic tooth Brush placed on the sore spot when pumping /feeding immediately before pumping /feeding will help break it up.

ditto on the pointing baby's nose in direction of the plug! also, helps to dangle-feed (get on all fours and have baby under you). good luck. plugged ducts suck

Re: Plugged duct help?

Lecithin in your diet will help clear it up and prevent it from occurring.

Re: Plugged duct help?

All of the above and go to the doctor if you even see a slight hint of redness on your breast asap. I made the mistake of waiting too long and my mastitis got really really bad.

Hot shower while massaging and wool breast pads or cashmere lined nursing pads.

Re: Plugged duct help?

I used a heating pad as much as possible, always started feedings on that side and pumped it as much as possible. It was painful. During one pumping session several slimy string type things came out and then it started feeling better. Good luck.
