Help! New mom to CD can't get right fit??

I'm really new to the whole cloth diaper thing but I was hopeful it wouldn't be this hard. I have 3 month old chubby lil boy. I can't seem to find the right diaper for him. The only thing that comes close to fitting with no leaks is thirsties fab fitted size 2. I have bought just about every kind of brand & combo. I have to buy the larger sizes just to fit his belly. He's in a 9 month old size diaper right now..this can't be right??can it?? Am I doing something wrong?? Plz help. Thanks

What diaper do you use the most and what covers are you using with the fab fitted?

Here is a great video on how to get a good fit putting on a cloth diaper, maybe this will help.

Re: Help! New mom to CD can't get right fit??

I'm using a pro wrap classic with the fab fitted. I also have the thirsties cover but it makes everything so bulky he can't move. I have tried the gdiaper large it fits around his legs perfect but is super tight around his belly. Several pocket dipes but they leak too. The video was very helpful.. I think that maybe I'm supposed to wrap it tighter to fit.? But when I do he gets cranky & it leaves red marks on him so I can't really do that either.

Re: Help! New mom to CD can't get right fit??

I just ordered 2 flips I'm hoping they will be different. I haven't tried them yet. I have tried happy Hempys to no avail... Oh I also can sometimes use the sun seedlings fitted but only when he's napping because it's not to tight on his belly when he's laying down. I know there's a system for us but just can't figure it out. Thank you for responding.

If it is leaving red marks the it is too tight, just make sure the diaper is in the crease of his thighs not on his legs.

Have you tried flats or wool? Not sure if you have a budget or anything

Re: Help! New mom to CD can't get right fit??

For pul, blueberry coveralls are great for bigger sized babies. ( I think sometimes it's called size 2) a little spendy, but they have cute prints and can snap down in the rise. I'd go with flats or prefolds if your having issues with them not fitting around the tummy. Sweet iris flats are spendy, but they stretch. My 11 month old and my 3 year old can use them comfortably.

I haven't tried any flats or prefolds I wouldn't know where to begin..lol I do have a disana wool soaker cover I use sometimes. I will look into the flats n folds ...it might be perfect for him. I haven't heard of blueberry but I'm fixing to search it now. Could I use the prefolds under the wool soaker or do those need a reg cover? Thanks so much for this info I've been feeling kinda helpless..so glad I found this site.

Re: Help! New mom to CD can't get right fit??

I watched YouTube videos on different ways to fold a flat and use prefolds. Once I tried it, it really was simple. I just fold a nice stack of kite folded flats, ready for use now. And yes you can use prefolds and flats with wool, that's my personal favorite combo! Really, you can use any favorite cloth under wool, as long as it fits.
