Re: Baby Signing

We started around 4 months with just Mommy and Daddy and have increased to more signs now that she's 6 months. Haven't seen her do any yet, but she's just now starting to wave hello, so I'm thinking we're getting closer!

Sooner the better I waited til few months old with second. She picked up fast & at age 3 still uses some. We used at library & in talking few signs.

My second girl was very smart to start like even with breastfeeding.

My Mood:
Baby signing is great and we loved it! I started signing "milk" at 6 months (7 weeks preemie) every time he drank a bottle. DH and grandmas were on board too. DS first signed milk at 10 months and I was elated! The next sign was "more" and we used "eat" "please" "finished/done" a lot too.

Before he signed for the first time I Sometimes I wondered if I should keep going. But keep it up! Your baby will sign back and the communication helps so much!
Wife to J and Mama to boys C (11/09) and R (4/15)

Re: Baby Signing

DD is 17mo and did the sign for "bunny", un-prompted, while we were outside this evening (they often graze in our yard). I was busy doing something and she wanted me to come look at the bunny. It is so fun that she starts conversations with us this way, by signing! The basic signs are helpful but it is really neat when you get beyond the daily needs and wants.

We started with Sign With Your Baby over a decade ago with my oldest son. The DVD is outdated fashion-wise, but still good information and inspiring for parents to watch, who are starting out, so you can see what you have to look forward to!

I am generally opposed to screen time for babies but we have made an exception for the My Baby Can Talk DVD's. We found them at our library and they are very simple and sweet for a toddler, my daughter loves them! We put it in every so often and she signs along

Also recommend these flash cards. They are sturdier and larger than most with real photographs instead of illustrations, and both a picture and a sign for each topic
