One side feels engorged after 3 weeks?? Red streaks?

Ok, I don't know what's going on here, I've talked to 2 IBCLCs and was told maybe blocked ducts?

My right bb HURTS...I still feel milk let downs, and it feels engorged! I DID have a plugged duct, but finally got it "un plugged"..but now it still hurts! Still red streaks (but no fever/illness, so no mastitis, right?) I do feel bad at nightime, but I just figure it's because of lack of sleep.

Baby doesn't favor that side, is that a contributor? He will eat off of it everyother time, but seems much more content when eating off of the other side (has from day one)

Any ideas of what's going on?

sounds like mastitis to me.
nurse on that side more than the other and point babes chin toward the affected area. rest. LOTS of water. and if you have a rice sock pop that in the microwave and wrap it around your breast.
phytolacca is an awesome homeopathic that helps. also lecithin helps too.
but mainly rest and water and nurse nurse nurse!!!

Re: One side feels engorged after 3 weeks?? Red streaks?

I had mastitis a few weeks ago, and started out similar to what you describe. It started with being sore one night and then a red streak the next afternoon. All along I was expressing milk on that side along with nursing dd extra on that side, angling her toward where I was sore, etc. I may have been running a low grade fever by night time or maybe not even yet, and dh called the doctor for me and I started antibiotics. The next morning I woke up feeling miserable, sweaty and feverish. I was glad I had started the antibiotics the night before, because I felt better in a few hours. The soreness did last for a few days at least though. I would at least call your OB and see what they say.

Sound like mastitis to me to- you could also try contacting a La Leche League leader in your area and see what they think- they are generally awesomely helpful and kind

It could be the START of mastitis. It'll smack you really hard if it gets going. Make sure you empty out as best you can, massage, keep it empty. Just keep an eye on it, hopefully all that will go away but if the other symptoms of mastitis come on (fever, etc.) then it usually hits really fast.

Great advice mama!!!!! Yes, lecithin is great - you can get capsules and I keep them in the fridge!

It does sound like the beginning of Mastitis.

Heat before and during feedings, massage, anti-inflammatory for the pain, rest, rest, rest, nurse, nurse, nurse, and fluids!

http://www.llli.org/FAQ/mastitis.html

If you should spike a fever, it's a good idea to call your Dr.

HTH!
