Re: I'm using a wet pail!

I CDed DS from 11 mo until 2 1/2 (he is PTed now) and never had to use a wet pail and never had stains either. I never had to sun diapers until I had DD and that was because of BF poo or formula poo. We are eating solids now and the only dipes with "problems" are velour inners. I don't get stains on the fleece or suedecloth inners, if that helps inner. I didn't have a sprayer with DS's diapers but most of it came off the fleece or suedecloth easily.

I agree with the pp though. I think the smellies would be an issue with a wet pail and be sure you have a lid for your DD.

Re: I'm using a wet pail!

I have the safety 1st simple step diaper pail that I use. Yeah, it's small and I even with toddler I have to do laundry ever 1 1/2 days. I'm doing it at the request of my boyfriend because the dry pail method stinks to high heaven. And it's easier to rinse off a poopy dipe and cram it in to soak in the pail right next to the potty. My daughter doesn't mess with it except to try and put dirty diapers in there. When I go to wash them I dump the water in the tub, and then cart the pail to the laundry room. So far so good, when I remember to bring the pail out of the laundry room.

I use a dry pail and it actually smells good. I keep a box of baking soda next to it, and every single time I throw a dipe in, I sprinkle in some baking soda. Then on wash day, I dump the pail in the machine in the morning and let it soak w/ cold water and vinegar. The baking soda goes in there too.

No wet pail here. We use a dry "wet" bag. I still wash everynight (like to wake up to a clean stash ) so that prevents stains for us.

I'm always afraid of a child drowning in a wet pail and don't think I'd ever have one just for that reason alone. My wet bag hangs on the back of my basement door and I just toss everything in there.

Personally. . . I would rather have stains than mess with nasty, dirty water that's sitting around. I can appreciate those of you who want your diapers to stay pristine, but I'm just not willing to go to that effort And honestly, I haven't found things stained much anyway.

Re: I'm using a wet pail!

I did a wet pail with DS2, and we could NOT keep the stink out of our dipes. I've done a dry pail with Logan's dipes since we started, and we've not had the stink issues (at least after we got the water figured out, we didn't) that we had with a wet pail. When I did a wet pail, I put baking soda into the water to help keep the stink down (though it didn't work-and when I had stink, I tried leaving it out, and it still didn't work).

yup she has a lid. (she said it in a previous post and i've yet to see a bucket like that that doesn't have a lid ).

i would add GSE or lavender to it if i was using a wet pail . probably along with a bit of vinegar as well. also at www.hyenacart.com/homemademama she has this stuff called soap nuts that i would add as well, it works great as a softener also w/o the results of "real" fabric softener (ie- buildup lol).

Re: I'm using a wet pail!

a wet pail system is not good for any diapers that contain PUL or Elastics.

As long as its for prefolds/flats only, its awesome! (*** TTO & Vinegar or BS in there to help combat Bacteria)

And Please for safely reasons, always seal it with a tight fitting lid.
