HELP!! My baby is melting!

Well, having a meltdown, really. I feel so bad for her, I just don't know what to do...
Got any solutions to a baby who cries hysterically at bedtime? Doesn't matter if she just woke from a nap 1/2 hr. earlier, if we do a whole routine w/ bath, song, story...she has an absolute meltdown around 7:30 and nothing seems to help--swaddling, shhhh-ing, singing, dark/quiet room, bright/noisy room, rocking, nursing, finger-sucking. She's screaming at the top of her lungs, crying w/ real tears (breaking my heart), choking, gasping, doing that little shaky lamb cry... I just don't know what else to do. Eventually, she just wears herself out and lets us put her to sleep, but not for at LEAST an hour. I can only remember one time in the last 2m that she's gone down happily. Any ideas? DH and I feel SO bad for her!

Re: HELP!! My baby is melting!

((Hugs)) Its common for little babies to do that. Try to hang in there and it should start to resolve itself in another couple of weeks.

Re: HELP!! My baby is melting!

I know some say not to do this, but have you tried nursing her to sleep?
I know at this age, my DD was not getting quite enough to eat at the times she wanted. I found that she did NOT eat very much in the morning, so what I pumped in the morning, I gave to her (after nursing) at night.
Hang in there hon.

Re: HELP!! My baby is melting!

How old is she????

That can be sooooo hard!! I nurse my dd to sleep at night, but we are lucky she is a great sleeper, now my 4 year old takes a little more work. We have to do the routine and even some nights I lay in bed with her and cuddle to help her calm down.

Good Luck

Re: HELP!! My baby is melting!

Hi, my dd did something similar, when I discovered she would always have a burp stuck in her. I also found out she had reflux, maybe try extra burping time or gripe water........ just trying to help

Re: HELP!! My baby is melting!

I'd think of trapped burps or reflux aswell.
Aswell as the time where they simply don't want to be put down to sleep/left alone in the room, kwim?..

I can only recommend 'Healthy sleeping habits, happy baby' to read! Great info and not the typical CIO!

If I don't respond, it's because we're 6 hrs ahead of EST and I might be sleeping already

Re: HELP!! My baby is melting!

Thanks for the suggestions, ladies! I never let DD CIO--we practice AP. DH or I are there either holding her, or lying next to her in bed w/ our finger in her mouth (she refuses the paci, but NEEDS to suck to sleep.) Nursing helps at times, but for the most part, nothing helps at bedtime. I was thinking maybe she was overtired, as her naps get shorter and shorter, until the 5:00ish one, which is no longer than 15 min. Maybe I'll try to put her to bed earlier? She never naps for more than 1 hr. during the day--usually 40 min. She can't suck her thumb yet to self-soothe (tho she tries desperately!)
The Happiest Baby on the Block was a lifesaver after DD came home...looks like I'll have to try Happy Babies..Sleep, whatever. Anyone got one to sell? *off to post an ISO*
