hi mama - so sorry you're having a rough go at it! thrush can be so frustrating. First I want to say what helped us through the battle was some grapfruit seed extract. (NOT grapeseed extract )
see if you can get your hands on some of that...

Here's
a link with some great resources and info - all thrush related. Hope it proves helpful.

(and there's links in my siggy to find local LLL leaders or IBCLCs in your area if you'd like phone call help )

good luck to you and baby

All the nurse practitioners and LCs I've talked to recommend the full 7 day treatment with GV - no more and no less. Seeing results after 3 days would be nice but you've still got 4 days to go!

I know from personal experience that working with GV is a PITA so

Re: we've been doing gv for 3 days...

I'd do the gv for 7 days (total)
get the grapefruit seed extract and start taking acidopholous - you can give baby the babydopholous as well. just dip a clean wet finger into the powder and let him suck it off.

diflucan for 14days is prob not enough. by the time its systemic and you need diflucan, its hard hard hard to get rid of.

do a web search on dr jack newman & thrush

I had it in the ducts. it was HORRIBLE. took months and months to get rid of it. months of diflucan, gse, acidopholous, gv rounds, boiling & sterilizing everything - finally, I had to cut out all refined sugar to get rid of it.

Is it on baby's tongue? Are you using the GV on her tongue? (I'm just wondering, my DD usually gets it as a diaper rash and nipples for me.) I know where you're at- we've been at it off & on for months. I"m thinking after this long, it needs to be a LONG course of Diflucan for me.

Polysporin and neosporin are the same thing. I used generic monistat. GV just did not work for me. Maybe it will for you. But I don't like the mess it made and my DS always had a blueberry mouth and I hated explaining to everyone why he did.

yeah, it's on baby's tongue...other than really deep breast pain i don't have any other symptoms..oh, i do have a vaginal yeast infection.

i went to a Women's center to try on a maternity bra today that i was eyeing online and asked the lc about my thrush and told her what i had already done and she said that an xtra 7 days on diflucan may be necessary (21 days total) also that since we are being treated systemically by meds that the gv or a cream should do the trick...i'm gonna give the gv another round (since i already have it) and if that doesn't do the trick i'll try the nipple cream recipe. i'm only on day 3 or 4 of my diflucan so i still have a good week & a half left...hopefully i don't need the 7 xtra days.
