Re: Poll: Cost of getting started

My starter stash was around $500. That included:

2 dz preemie PFs
3 dz infant PFs
2 dz premium PFs
4 sets dritz pins
5 snappis
6 nb PUL covers
6 sm PUL covers
2 sm wool wraps
5 sm longies
8 sm fitteds
4 xs/sm pockets
diaper pail
wool wash and lanolin

I started buying slowly as soon as I got my BFP, so I got a lot of great deals because I was in no rush.

Re: Poll: Cost of getting started

I spent way too much b/c Idid all FBs and then they didn't work for us. I'm helping my friend get started and getting alot of EUC stuff. I would say that for under $200 she'll get:
24 pfs
10 fitteds
6 covers
diaper sprayer (she's making her own)
2 pail liners
fleece liners (we bought fleece at the store dirt cheap)
2 wetbags

Re: Poll: Cost of getting started

My starter stash only cost me $75 brand new, but that was over 10yrs ago. It was 4 dozen prefolds and 4 covers(2 Dappis, 2 ME Rikkis). I didn't know many people who cloth diapered nor did we have internet, so I had no clue of what all was available. Once I discovered all the options I spent a lot more trying different things. Funny thing is, though, that my favorite diapers in my stash to this day are my original prefolds that are now on their 5th kiddo. They're so, so soft, but they are starting to fray around the edges.

I'm just starting too. (My dipes etc. are in the mail.) I'm off the ground for ~$100.
4 doz. factory second prefolds
3 Snappis
4 Dappi nylon pull ons
1 used Thirsties wrap from a DS mama

I plan to buy more wraps as I am able to afford them.

Re: Poll: Cost of getting started

Geez, I stopped counting.
But I think I've been as economical as I can possibly be. Started with a pf/cover package for about $40, then added a few pockets, inserts...tried a few things that didn't work, lost a bit. Actually, let me try to add it up because I bought everything slowly, so I've never thought about the cost. Heres my stash:
9 pfs from package - $40
4 embelished pfs - $12
12 flats - $12
BSWW - package
PW - package
Snappis, pins - package + $3
2 diaperaps - $6
2 fbs - $25
1'roo - $4 (partial trade)
2 BGs coming my way - $25
1 AI1 - $10
Misc inserts - $10
Sposie & fleece liners - $15
Wipes - $10
1 fitted - $15
Soakers - $10
Longies - $23
Wool for 4 self-knit soakers/longies - $40

So thats about 270 + maybe $20 or so I've lost on things that didn't work.

Thats total under $300

Thats not too bad. I should be able to keep the nb stash to under $100 because it will mainly be pfs/flats, wahm pockets, and the OS dipes from my dd.

Now the scary part comes when I add up the laundry costs. But at least I wont have to spend $$ on sposies for 2--and once my nb moves up, I'll already have a med stash. So that will be $400 for 2 kiddos.

Re: Poll: Cost of getting started

I've spent about $230 so far on starting a stash for twins. I've gotten just over one day's worth of AIOs and pockets through here, ebay, and two really cute embroidered customs. I haven't paid full price for anything yet (except the customs, but even then she was running a special), but as soon as we figure out what we like best (I'm thinking the BG OS pockets and FuzziBuns at the moment) I'm going to order probably about another $250 worth (and sell a few here that we aren't using) so I only have to wash every other day.

and even with all this we still be saving almost $500 this year, and over $1000 next year since not buying sposies.

Re: Poll: Cost of getting started

I was able to buy my first items with money I made by having a yard sale. I bought a few things to try and realized they weren't going to work for me so I re-sold or traded them. I am not even including them in my total price. I just added up what I have spent and it is around $415. This does not include laundry detergent or the Essential Oils I bought to care for them or the baby wash cloths I bought to use instead of disposable wipes. The Mediums are for my 5 mo old and most of the Larges for my 2 yr old.

This is what I have or coming my way:

8 BG AIO's Medium - all gently used
7 Bumkins AIO's Medium - all gently used
3 Just Ducky Baby AIO's Medium - all gently used
1 WAHM AIO Medium Embroidered - new
6 WAHM Covers Medium Embroidered - new
13 Fitteds Medium - now currently being loaned out
7 covers Medium - now currently being loaned out
1 Wool soaker - new
10 Bumkins Large - 7 gently used, 3 brand new but bought on FSOT

Re: Poll: Cost of getting started

When I started, I bought a bunch of stuff to try, but if I would have stuck to my plan (which is what I just went back to after a year of cding):

12 fb's (I actually have 16 now)
hemp inserts
2 pail liners
2 wetbags
24 wipes
diy sprayer

I would guess it would be about 275 for all that.
