Thumbs down Non-Vaxers: How nice of my Mother.... (small rant)

She just emailed me this link that a friend of hers sent to her FOR me. I love how she shares MY decision with people I don't even know.

http://www.quackwatch.org/03HealthPromotion/immu/immu00.html

I briefly glanced at it, said "Blah, Blah, Blah" to myself, and kindly emailed her back. I said:

I'm not so sure I like being linked to a site called "Quackwatch". I'm not crazy, just well informed.
I've put SO much energy into showing her why we have chosen not to vax and she has not taken the time to read anything I've given to her, which include books, internet articles, personal experience from friends, etc. So I'm a little annoyed that she would send this to me. She says she doesn't have time to do the research, or read what I've given her. OK, fine. But then don't send me stuff like this!

I know how you feel. Sorry 'bout that! We decided not to vax LONG before Layton was born and for some reason when I was talking to my mom yesterday she all of a sudden was like, "What??? You're not vaxing?? Why not? I can't believe that" Um, hello, mom- yeah, we decided that over 6 mo ago!!!!!

Oh, and P.S., I have a great article for you if you want to send one back to her!!!! http://www.westonaprice.org/children/vaccinations.html

My mom still mentions ever few months she worries about us not vaxing Jackson. But she does it in a loving way, she was told vaccines were best and to not giving them to your child was basically saying you didn't love your child enough to protect them. She trusts my judgement and knows I research every decision I make for Jack. She's just having a hard time going back and relearning everything. kwim?

I'm always open to reading information. So she sends me stuff sometimes. But she sends both pro and anti vax stuff to me.

I love my mom.

We don't vaccinate, we kept our sons intact, we use cloth diapers, we co-sleep, we extended RF, we breastfeed, but we watch too much tv and I totally dig plastic! Everyone has their issues, lol.

Well, I didn't tell her until just recently. I knew she'd flip out. And the only reason I did is because if my husband and I should die, our kids would go live with her, so I thought it was something she should know beforehand. It's written in our will, and the document we have saying who we want the kids to live with. But I didn't want her to find out THEN should that ever become a real situation.

The funniest part of that article is that it recommends adults also be vax'd. When we were having a convo a few months about this, I asked her when the last time SHE received her vax's, and she said, "I'm an adult and don't need them." Oh really? Why don't YOU need them, but your children do? She didn't know.

"First, persons have been concerned about the duration of immunity. Available evidence indicates immunity to varicella should be long term, probably life long."

Um... nope. Sorry. That's why there are huge numbers of 9-10 year olds getting it now. Because they gain lifetime immunity from the vaccine.

It would be nice if you could find literature that was simply factual (pro or anti). Not loaded with completely obvious lies. *sigh*

I told my mom the same thing. She was like "Oh." She's immuno-compromised though, so I don't know if she could be vaccinated anyways.
