Re: Anyone here have a DC born with a "Sacral Dimple"?

I'd never noticed it before but when I read Jack's medical records from his birth it has him listed as having one.

We don't vaccinate, we kept our sons intact, we use cloth diapers, we co-sleep, we extended RF, we breastfeed, but we watch too much tv and I totally dig plastic! Everyone has their issues, lol.

DS has one and none of the doctors expressed concern over it. DH didn't worry about it either (I mention this b/c he went ape-sh*t over a little blue dot on his neck).

Re: Anyone here have a DC born with a "Sacral Dimple"?

If your child has a sacral dimple, you want to have an MRI to rule out tethered spinal cord at around 5-6 months. You can't rule it out with an ultrasound or before that age. A tethered cord is a very serious condition that may not cause any problems when the child is young but as they grow it can permanently damage the spinal cord. Don't be scared or worried, but schedule the MRI and have the films read by a neurosurgeon experienced in TC -- not just the hospital radiologist. My son has a sacral dimple but the MRI showed no TC.

Re: Anyone here have a DC born with a "Sacral Dimple"?

Well, Dh and I noticed that DS2 has one. We noticed it for the first time when he was 11 months. My ped sent us to have the MRI done. Thank goodness that there was nothing wrong. The wierd thing is that my DS was premature and was in the hospital for a month after birth and no one noticed it?? I am sure that it is ok. Everything that I have read has said that more cases are just what my Dr. calls a "shirley temple dimple!!"

My ds has that and my best friend's dd has one too. Neither of our ped's have ever said anything about it. My ds is 2. Should I make an appt. to see the ped and ask about it?

I have that I didn't know that's what it was called. I didn't even know it was abnormal until I was an adult, I thought everyone was like that until I saw DH and was like hmmm My DS has a very slight one, I never knew it could cause problems though, I'll have to ask his ped when he goes next month.

Re: Anyone here have a DC born with a "Sacral Dimple"?

my son has one, he is just now 6mos old. He has closed spina bifida. They wanted to start PT with him at about 3 weeks old. I refused, he is being watched by the docs though.

Both of my youngest have the dimples...my dd's was noticeable at birth (she is now 4) but I just now realized that ds has one too (he is 16 months). The pedi's never paid much attention to them...
