SAHM's what do you do...

i'm just wondering what do SAHM's do when you have something that just comes up-not planned(like a doctors or such)? dh and i both work full time, but he can take ds to school early and go to appointments before work. however, i can not do that since ds HAS to be picked up by a certain time and that does not give me ample time to do things. Do you take your LO with you? i do not live near family and do not have anyone that i would leave ds with at this moment. Thanks

I take DS everywhere that I go except on mine and DF's date nights. Other than that where I am, so is he. No exceptions.

Especially since Summer has started and they are out of school, they are my 3 "tag alongs."

DDs are with me, generally speaking. If dh is home, and I have somewhere to go, he will watch them and vice versa. If the kids have somewhere to go, I usually take them or if we are both home we take them together. We have both been at home the last five months or so, so the latter has been common.

Re: SAHM's what do you do...

They are with me everywhere I go, until DH joined the Army.
Some of the hospitals I found had strange rules about not bringing your children, but then they didn't offer childcare options, either. So there have been a couple times where I had to take them to drop-in care (PCS briefing, dr appointments)... however, now that I am more confident in where I stand as a SAHM, I am very adamant about allowing my kids wherever I go... and where we are no I've had no problems. And I've had my kids with me (and we would walk several miles a day since we are without car) through many medical emergencies because I do not have anyone near to help, and DH works over an hour away. Most people have been very accomodating, and the hospital staff now get very excited when they see us coming and fight over who gets to "watch the kids" if there is something I need to do I'd rather them not be present for, which generally only include pelvic exams or a private conversation with the doctor that included anything scary (I was continually told over a year I could "drop dead" at any moment, those conversations I did not want DC to hear, naturally).

a little side story, DS refused to leave my side during one emergency doctor visit a couple years ago, where they had to do a rectal exam. I explained to him what they were going to do, why they were doing it, and how sometimes doctors have to do things like that to make you all better. He didn't want me to be scared, but he didn't want to watch either, so he stood behind the curtain with his hand under it so he could hold my hand. He was very sweet, supportive, and all smiles through it all, just like I would be if he had to get blood drawn or something. DD was lured out by a nurse who put a cartoon on the TV in their lounge, lol. Kids learn a lot about real life when they are allowed to experience it with you.
