Re: Car Seat? 5 pt Past 40lb Question

I really like the look of the Recaro Como/Signo, but I can't seem to find how high the top slot is.

Oh, man! I wish we could of waited for this. DD was already 40 lbs., though, so we needed to replace now. We love our current Evenflo Triumph.

Re: Car Seat? 5 pt Past 40lb Question

We have 2 Sunshine Kids Radians for my 6 yr dd & 4.5 yr ds. We love them. They were a bit of pain to get installed, but we very rarely move them, so that was okay for us. Plus according to Sunshine Kids, it is okay to be over the top slot. I read it on a carseat forum, and it made since, but I can't remember the reasons why right now. But both my dd is around 43-44" and she still has a couple inches. My ds is right at 40" and he was just moved to the top slot and has a good bit left before hitting the top. I also like how narrow they are. I could fit 3 across my 3rd row in my Expedition if I needed too.
This carseat forum below is awesome to find out answers to your questions. They really know there stuff over there!

Re: Car Seat? 5 pt Past 40lb Question

Your options would be the Regent (80 lbs), Apex (65 lbs and you have to have headrests in your car), Radian (65 or 80 lbs but I've heard that's it incompatable with ALOT of cars so you would definitely want to try it before you bought one), or the Recaro (which has a couple different ones):

I disagree. Britax seats are far superior in quality and testing. That is why they cost more. The same with other top seats like the Radian 80 and Recaro seats. I wouldn't expect a Ford to cost the same as a Mercedes. Same holds true with car seats.

To the OP: You've been given great advice by other techs. Top slots on the new Recaro seats should be around 19". It's my understanding the Signo will allow about an inch more than the Como. I've heard the Radian 80 can be used until the shoulders are about 1.5" above the top slots, since it has a reinforced steel upper. The Regent still has the tallest top slots.

Probably about the same online- which is usally a bit cheaper than buying in store. Usually, you at least save tax and can get free shipping. I'll look around.

Re: Car Seat? 5 pt Past 40lb Question

id go with the regent since he's already ff...we got a marathon cause my ds was still RF, now he's ff so we got a regent (christmas and birthday gifts from my dad, i still couldnt afford them) and hell go into that seat once the baby's a few mnonths old, and until then my 5yo can be back in a harnassed seat

it sounds silly....but i sat in the regent, and if my weight wasnt almost double the rcmd i could still sit in it at 5'3"! the top of my ears were still below the top of the seat and my shoulders were just right for the slots

Re: Car Seat? 5 pt Past 40lb Question

I drive a Ford Escape and I have the Apex on one side in the back and a Britax Roundabout in the middle. There is plenty of room for one person to sit in the backseat with the two seats in there.
