what is your dc's favorite books?

Celeste (8) is in a reading club for summer, so we are looking for suggestions. I read to her, or we request them on tape, so any suggestions are appreciated!

Also, if you have something your younger dc love (dd#2 is 19 months) LMK too! Thanks

How funny!! I was just going to say the Sandra Boynton books....actually for both of your dd's. We LOVE the Belly Button book and my son has literally worn out his Doggies book. Also you can get her books on CD. I've gotten them both through my student book orders. When I taught K the kids thought they were so fun!! (My third graders will enjoy them too if they think no one is looking. ) The newest book on Cd of hers that we got is called "Dog Train" and it combines many of her stories into song lyrics sung by famous groups. They are awesome to stick in the car and sing along to. "Philadelphia Chickens" is the other book.....

I also love and highly recommend anything by Jan Brett, the Arthur series, Kevin Henkes, David Kirk, or Barbara Park. Does your dd like picture books or does she listen to chapter books as well? I'm a book nut and have over 1000 children's books in my home...that's not including the books from my classroom.

Re: what is your dc's favorite books?

my 8 yr old DD Alexis LOVES Junie B Jones books... the author escapes my mind at the moment - but they totally helped her go from not even being able to read most board books - to reading chapter books - just within this school year!!
other favorites of ours:

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom (DD#2 (she's 4) ALL TIME Favorite
The Color Kittens (DD#2 loves this - and i remember it form when i was a kid)
The Pokey Little Puppy (i remember this one too! )
Elmer (about a patchwork elephant - a family favorite)

i've never heard of Sandra Boynton - looks like one i'll have to look for the next time i hit the library!

Re: what is your dc's favorite books?

Don't know what 8 year olds like for books since I don't have a kid that old. However, when dd was around 18 months her favorite books were a series of books by Usborne. They all started 'That's not my....' They are touch and feel books and dd LOVED them. We checked them out a lot from the library but ended up buying her a couple because she wanted to read them all the time. Elmer the patchwork Elephant was (and still is sometimes) a big favorite as well.

My two oldest are 11 and almost 10. I think Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle was among our favorites at that age. They have chapter books of these and some have been made into picture books. These are some of my all-time favorite books.
