Swim diaper question

If the sole purpose of a swim diaper is just to catch poop and not to absorb urine, couldn't you just use a fitted or an empty pocket? Does anyone here do that?

I do!! Someone gave us 2 small HH a while back, and they were too small for ds, but unstuffed, they fit perfect! So, we've been using them as swim dipes all summer and they've worked great!

Re: Swim diaper question

If you use a pocket you can ruin the PUL in chlorine. If you're using a fitted, it will get totally weighed down.
I use the swim diapers from target. They are $5.99 - MUCh cheaper than replacing a fuzzibinz or something PLUS they fit great and the inside is nice terry cloth. The elastic around the waist and legs is snug, snugger than fitteds or pockets I have.
We don't go to a pool, but we do go to the beach. When we're just playing on the towel, I just put him in a cute AIO. In the water (bbbbbrrrr 50 degrees last weekend) he'll wear the swim diaper.

Re: Swim diaper question

As I recall, there was a thread on MDC a year or so ago about not using pockets in the pool. Some people found that they were filling with water and weighing down their kids--causing a dangerous situation.

We use the BUmmis Swimmi and love it. They are only about $10.

Re: Swim diaper question

Aaahh, see, we just had a small pool in our backyard that we got from Target - no chlorine. Unstuffed pockets are great for that. I never would have thought of the chlorine, but then again, I haven't been in a chlorinated pool in YEARS, so I doubt we'll have the oppotunity any time soon. I'll have to keep that in mind, just in case though!!

Re: Swim diaper question

I use an empty pocket, but don't swim in chlorinated pools either. In fact, the nearest pool to us is a sal****er pool. Our marathon pocket fits snug, trim, and looks just like a swim dipe! There has never been a problem with it filling with water either.

We use TLC Early Trainers in a size smaller than I would usually use. Then after swimming I turn inside out and they dry fast since they have poly/rayon filling. Our pool requires that we also put another snug fitting swim suit over top.
