Special tricks for toddler constipation?
Title basically says it all....doc said to use 1 tbsp of milk of magnesia and lots of apple or prune juice.
I asked about diet and he said just to get bran cheerios and when he's older, raisin bran....seems like there should be more I can do. What are your tricks?

Re: Special tricks for toddler constipation?
DD gets so constipated ~ I feel so bad! Our doctor recommended 1 teaspoon of dark Karo syrup twice a day until the problem has passed. Karo helps draw water into the colon ~ in the beginning I hated to give her all that sugar, but it really helps! We also try to sneak more fiber into her diet like apples and cheerios. Oh and we had to switch to 2% milk, whole milk made the problem worse. I hope he feels better soon!

Re: Special tricks for toddler constipation?
I don't know if this will help you or not, but store brand Cheerios! Several months ago I tried to save some money by buying some store brand Cheerios. What a big mistake that was. They made my boys poop 4 or 5 times a day. Just recently I tried it again with a different store brand of Cheerios and the same thing happened. I will just be sticking with the name brand now.

Re: Special tricks for toddler constipation?
Raisins, corn-on-the-cob (or OFF the cob, but ON is more fun to eat!), blueberries, dried fruits... I wouldn't do any sugary juices at all.
I wouldn't go the Dr's route, but that might be me bucking the system. I've heard of some sad/scary stories involving lotsa juice in babes...as in, they can't STOP pooping and it scares them/gives them bad rashes, etc.

Re: Special tricks for toddler constipation?
I don't know but my kid poops like 5 times a day. He eats lots of bananas, carrots, and drinks soymilk. *shrug*
I'd give him prunes every day. Most kids love them and they'll keep him from getting hard poos. I'd just give him a few a day, they won't hurt him unless you give him tons.

Re: Special tricks for toddler constipation?
I give 1/2 water 1/2 juice (also there's Mott for Tots which is like, 52% juice 48% purified water in a fun juice box), uh, he *loves* raisins like there's no tomorrow, craisins, and even yogurt helps to get him moving again. Whole apples too (not juice) or the Gerber Minifruits. What about YoBaby Pear yogurt? It has a lot of fiber in it.
