If you carry an epi-pen for your child......

What do you do when you go to the pool, to baseball games.......anywhere in the heat? It's not supposed to be in over 86* heat, and it's not supposed to get too cold. What do you do?

I didn't know that. We have one for DH and I keep asking our stupid Ped for one for Jack jic he's allergic to bees as well and gets stung this summer. We always just stick DH's in our diaperbag, or whatever we carry with us. As long as it's not sitting in direct sunlight it should be okay. At a pool, I'd just cover it with a towel. Stuff like that. That should keep it cool enough.

We don't vaccinate, we kept our sons intact, we use cloth diapers, we co-sleep, we extended RF, we breastfeed, but we watch too much tv and I totally dig plastic! Everyone has their issues, lol.

I've seen the site, but it says on there and on the pen itself, that it shouldn't be left in hot cars because it 'ruins' the epi-pen.

ETA:
It says to store at 77* and excursions are limited to 59*-86*. Protect from light, no refrigerator, Do NOT expose to extreme heat or cold...ex. Do NOT store in your vehicles glove box.

It's on the patient package insert. Link to it is here: http://www.epipen.com/epipen_prescribing.aspx

My allergist told me not to leave ours in the car, we have 2, one for ds- mutiple food allergies and me shellfish...
Luckily they come in a 2 pack so if 1 is messed up you have a backup.

I was told that they are fine in a purse or bag as long as the bag stays with you. So I would feel fine about taking it to the beach, but you SHOULDN'T leave it in a hot car all the time. I keep dd's in my purse.

Tiffer- if your son ever has a reaction to a bee sting you can give him liquid benadryl on your way to the hosp- I had to do that once. The test for bee stings is very long and not that reliable. That's what my allergist told me.

I keep my dd's epi-pen in her diaperbag with us, and I also carry one in my purse.

Re: If you carry an epi-pen for your child......

I just got off the phone with a pharmacist at epi pen. Here is what she told me (in my words ) I have to get a new epi pen because I have "cooked" the product and it might not be good anymore. She also told me that your epi pen should be fine as long as you are with it. She said that the epi pens tend to like simular temperatures as us(she stated it like this ). I asked about beach and things like that and she told me they recomend in situations where it is hot to try and find ways to keep it cooler (mabey put it in an insalated bag) So if you are going out and about it should be fine in the diaper bag or purse but never ever for any reason leave it in you vehicle I wish I had known this sooner.
