Someone just tell me what to buy...LOL

I just know I'm going to have a sick little obsession about CDing by the time this baby gets here! LOL. Okay, I'm just a little bit lost though. There is soooo much out there, and I just made my first purchase tonight on ebay (4 prefitted small diapers by a WAHM). I'm too thrifty to just buy a mixed kit that are out there, but I do like the idea of just buying a lump of different things! So if you are inclined to help, let me know what else I should get, here's what I am thinking....

4 pockets (or AIO's?)
8 fitted
12 prefold (indian or china?? so confused)
4 covers
how many inserts?

reading and seeing all the stuff, this seems like it's not near enough, but I've read that 24 should do me?? (I don't want to spend a fortune on the small stuff either)

Any tips are greatly appreciated (or anyone looking to sell a small stash!)
Thanks!

ok so here's my . I like pockets over AIO's because pockets are easier to keep clean and easier to dry. The difference in prefolds is indian are softer and generally seem to be shorter. Chinese seem to last longer. I've never cd a newborn so I'm not really sure how many inserts but I know that for my bigboy I have one insert/dipe and some extra for night time use and pocket stuffings.

I cloth diapered a newborn, and trust me, you want at least 3 dozen SOMETHINGS!

I had a stash of 24 pockets, and doing laundry every other day while feeding around the clock, being sleep deprived, and trying to figure out a newborn in general, was impossible!!!!!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~
I started with Small Fuzzi Bunz pockets and they fit DD (Born at just under 8 lbs, and now 95th percentile...a big girl) all the way through Month 3. Some of those were HEAVILY used before I got them, though, and were shrunken to be much smaller than new Fuzzi Bunz, so they fit a newborn just great!
Re: Someone just tell me what to buy...LOL
Ladies! Thank you!
I'm slowing sorting everything out in my head, and narrowing down what I'll try. I'm coming to the conclusion that 24 will not be enough, so now I need to decide what combo. but after all the chatter I've been doing the last few days, I am feeling more comfortable making choices, thanks to folks like you!
While this is my first CD (hopeful) experience, it is my third baby (why didn't I do it sooner?) so I do have an appreication for how hectic it is with a newborn, so at least I'm realistic about it not neccesarily being easy, and wanting to make it as easy as possible for myself while not breaking the bank!
The hunt continues.
Now I'm starting to think about how to store the dipes (Baby's room will be shared with my 1 yr old - 2 cribs, limited space etc.) and also how to pack a diaper bag with cloth dipes. Also, do you use pins or snappis? how many do I need?
Thanks again for your advice :-)
I haven't used them, but I would get some orange edge newborn prefolds from www.greenmountaindiapers.com I think there might be some on FSOT right now.
I would also find some swaddlebees newborn fitteds on FSOT.
I would use XS Thirsties covers in a super cute color, and some wool ones too.
Good luck,and dont forget to take pic of the babe in just the cute little diapers, I only got a couple!
Do you have a recommendation for knitting patterns for the longies? It has been years since I have done any knitting, but it might be fun to give it a try! My mom does a ton of knitting too, so I could always recruit her too :-)
Why does something so gross, seem like so much fun??!! cloth diapers....who knew?
That sounds like a really great, yet simple stash! With a newborn, you really don't want to mess with stripping IMO. If we have any more kiddos, we are only using prefolds & covers. Esp since they are only in them for a short amount of time.
