Insurance question? Please advise me:)

I will be losing my insurance as of September because I am having to quit my job (since we are moving). However, I recently found out that I am pregnant. Can you get new insurance if you already know you are pregnant?
Will they even add you or accept you if you already are? Does anyone know what I should do? My husband is going to be in grad school getting his phd and I am going to try to get a part time job. However, money will be tight!!! Any advice? Thanks

From what I understand, you will have coverage for the baby IF you do not have a lapse in coverage (make sure your new insurance begins as soon as your current ends) AND you have had health insurance for at least 6 months (with your current provider) before switching to the second insurance company.

From what I have seen, it seems to depend on the insurance carrier's policies. When I got pregnant w/ my oldest, it turned out I had no maternity coverage --aaugh! CHECK IT OUT CAREFULLY, and if you need to, get a COBRA. Good luck!

Re: Insurance question? Please advise me:)

yeah, i believe maternity coverage is portable according to HIPPA if you're moving from one group plan (with maternity cover) to another group plan. you can't do it going from a group plan to an individual plan. and it doesn't apply to individual policies at all. i also agree that COBRA, while expensive, may very well be the best way to go. check it all out carefully is my main advice.

good luck!

Your preganancy can't be excluded as a pre-existing condition. Just make sure you get insurance that covers maternity...

Here in New York if you don't have private insurance you can get public insurance while you are pregnant and if you qualify you can be eligable after the baby is born. You may want to look into it where you are moving to.My mother works for HRA and she said depending on your state you may qualify for Medacaid or Family health.
