Anyone handwash dipes?

My dh and I are buying a fifth wheel to travel in....Since I'm a total planner, I was trying to figure out how to take my cloth with me on our trips instead of sposie dipes....
Has anyone handwashed (and how) dipes? I was thinking about prefolds and wool, for trips where a washer isnt available....

Re: Anyone handwash dipes?

I've done it on rare occasions & I can say wool has been easiest for covers especially b/c they are so easy to care for. PF's are the way to go as well... you can rinse off poo & soak poo/pee... aggitate w/VERY LITTLE detergent/soap & rinse rinse rinse & line dry. It can be a little bit challenging but it's doable. I've only done it twice... if you're lucky you can find a camping area w/a washing area... that's what we've come accross a lot.

I don't think I could get prefolds clean without a real washing machine...I'd be up to my elbows in a 5 gallon bucket half the day, oh so fun with messy toddler poo

I was going to ask about flats too...are they difficult to use and fold?

Re: Anyone handwash dipes?

I did last summer when my stash was still small, I washed them in the kitchen sink ever other night and hung them up on hangers in the shower on an extra shower curtain rod placed in the middle of my shower. At that time I did have mostly flats, which are super easy to wash (great for little babies) I didn't use a fancy fold. I just folded it up into a rectangle and stuck it in a cover. I also used prefolds for night use. Wool is nice because it doens't have to be washed very often.

Now I just take them to the laundromat (so much easier)
