bac-out
ok, I know I have read lots about bac-out in the forums... now I can't find in when I search. But in the meantime, I went ahead and ordered some and it came today...
?-> When and why would I use this... I figure it is for my ammonia smell and my one son is getting very red in the privates. I assume ammonia burns... So-when would I use it in the wash? Do I use it with detergent? can I use it with Dawn? Can I use dawn everytime? Please help me with my washing quandries!!!

Re: bac-out
My sister uses bac-out in her diaper pail. She spritzes it in there every time she throws in a new diaper. I am going to be buying some too for this purpose.

Re: bac-out
I use it in a prewash for each diaper load and I spray a little on every poopy diaper. It keep everything smelling clean, and prevents stains.
It's worth it's weight in gold imo.

Re: bac-out
I buy BacOut at Whole Foods, but I am sure that you can do a Google search for the stuff. BacOut is great because it contains GSE which is known for its antibacterial properties! I use it in a variety of ways- for a lot of household things, but for dipes, this is what has worked for us:

Re: bac-out
I ordered it from drugstore.com. and it came super fast...
So I just use a tiny bit in the wash during rinse? how much , like a capful? or dilute it in a spray bottle first, 50/50? Can I use dawn when washing still?

Re: bac-out
I buy ours at our local grocery store (Shaw's) in the "health food" section with natural cleaning products. I buy a good size spray bottle for about $10.
ETA: I don't dilute ours at all. I spray it into the stream of water going into the washer about 4x's and then spray each poopy diaper twice. I do one cold prewash (that's when I add the bac-out), a long hot wash (with detergent) and then a short hot wash, instead of a second rise and that is the only routine that has given us ammonia free diapers. I ran out of bac-out for a week and the ammonia smell was enough to make me loose my breath in the morning while changing his diaper.

Re: bac-out
I just bought a huge thing of it off ebay (a drug store on ebay) but it says soak diapers in it overnight? Anyone do this?
Today when I went to wash DSs diapers there was an awful amonia smell (1st time in over a year) so should I use this and soak when I get it? What else? Sorry to thread-jack!
