Keeping diapers soft?

So how do you keep your diapers soft? I have sherpa fitteds that are not feeling quite as soft as they should. My prefolds are fairly soft but could probably be a little softer? Obviously fabric softener is out! So if your diapers are soft how do you do it? TIA!

Re: Keeping diapers soft?

vinegar is a natural softener - DISTILLED WHITE. Occational use is great, but regular use may lead to stink issues.

Re: Keeping diapers soft?

Try using a residue free detergent like Sport-wash. It's the residue that makes them stiff. Also if you dry them in the machine I always use dryer balls. Makes 'em super soft and static free.

Re: Keeping diapers soft?

I usually use just baking soda to wash and I do have dryer balls also. I tried using the Sams brand detergent with vinegar as a rinse and that's when the diapers seemed to start getting stiff. Weird. Maybe I need to strip them and then try the vinegar.
